Help "Compass Mode" no longer works in Google maps

Since the ICS update, I have noticed that I now have only a blue dot showing my location in Google maps. It turns to a blue arrow once I began driving. Previously, I had a blue arrow while not moving that would rotate showing me which direction I was facing.

This also means the loss of selecting the compass rose to allow the screen to rotate so that up is always the direction I am facing.

I have seen another thread on this over at Motorola's forums, and I have see this on another Razr. Anyone else have this issue or anyone else not have this issue?

Yes I have the same issue, and its bugging the crap out of me, especially since I was just setting up my wife's Galaxy S III that she just got today, and her Maps app works the way it is supposed too.
I just got through sending Google some nasty feedback about this issue. I hope they fix it soon.

I have the exact same problem. In my case I was using an LG P970 which came with version 2.3 something, but since I upgraded to 4.0, compass mode stopped working! frustrating!

Most likely your magnetic field sensor is just stuck in one (or more) axes. This has happened to me a couple times and I had to unstick it by using one of my stronger refrigerator magnets. Just rotate around the x, y, z axes a few times at a distance of an inch or two from the phone. Google Maps compass mode and all other compass apps will then work as expected (again).
