computer Virus

Hi everyone,

In my office there are like 100 computers under a single network, we are using Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 in all the computers. We have printers connected to few computers and shared so that the others can print. But mos of the time we cant print unless we restart the computer on which the printer is connected or disable and then enable the network adapter of the respective computer.

Can any one help me with a solution to this problem?

Why the virus title?

Sounds to me like it's more hardware related, like power saving mode enabled on network adapters than anything else.

A single culprit can change whole networks management...
I remember once in my college computer lab, some student(counter strike players) have changed printer share settings and that led to complete network failure. Check for IP, i think they are colliding....

Do we know how the virus communicates withthe printers? We had an incident with the same virus where a user becameinfected and sent print jobs to every printer in organization. This user isonly connected to one print server in one site but the jobs were sent to everyprinter in multiple sites. I am not sure how a user was able to send a printjob to a printer in another site unless he is connected to that printer server. It is as the virus scanned our network to look for print servers or printers.
I'm guessing these are network printers? And the malware was able to detect the printers on the network and add the document to the queue..?

Just a guess...

@OP - Why are the printers not networked? If they're not able to be networked, then you should be looking at replacing them with network cpable printers. Even 2nd User HP Laserjets would do the job. They're nigh on indestructible. I had an old Laserjet 4+ from 2003 to 1012, when it finally died. So I bought another one for the next 10 rears.

If the PC's sharing the printers use DHCP to get their IP address, then the printers will probably be lost to the network when the IP lease is renewed. Check the DHCP server settings or assign the PC a static IP.

You should probably look into setting up a print server on your network.

Or give the printer a static ip address and tell the router not to assign it to anyone else
