I saw this:
Contrary to early belief, there’s no Samsung Galaxy S7 edge+ yet – with a possible launch for that device touted for much later in the year
So, I may wait until August or September when both the Edge+ & Note 6 comes out before getting a new phone. That means I won't be switching to Verizon before Summer like I wanted to. :(
 
Although it is true that this mis-feature would probably not effect me either, since I have far more MP3s/MP4s/map data than installed apps, I am still not happy. It seems that with every step Samsung makes they are striving to copy Apple. The phone looks like an iPhone and now, apparently, Samsung feels that we are too stupid to use this "dangerous" new feature. For me there was no feature jump from KitKat to Lollypop, even though there should have been lots of cool new features to be had based on the vanilla OS. I fear now that Marshmallow will look exactly like KitKat on a Samsung phone.

Ok, this is why non stock roms exist, but it is still frustrating.

Marshmallow may LOOK the same, but it certainly doesn't act the same. Although I haven't tried it out yet, Android 6 reportedly backs up app data as well: meaning that when you log back it after a factory reset (or on a new phone), your apps and data download to the device and you lose nothing. I look forward to testing this feature out when I move to the Note 6.
 
Well Eric, nobody can please everyone all the time. You can also switch to another phone brand if your unhappy with Samsung. It is a free world and choice.
 
One area where they aren't like apple is the Updates. Feels like it takes forever to get them, if we do at all. I know the carriers are equally to blame, but still...

That does indeed sound like a very useful, and long needed, feature. I just hope that it is not disabled in the Note 6 :)

I must admit to not really doing much research into Marshmallow seeing as how I am still not really wanting to leave my Note 4 and it's removable battery behind. So thanks for the information!

Problem is that no other manufacturer has a device with a Wacom stylus. So, I am stuck with Samsung.

But at the end of the day, this is not really what was annoying me (if you recall I did say that this missing feature would not effect me). I guess I am just sensitive about features being lost to me just because some users may find them confusing or could use them to break their phones. After all, I thought this is why we have Android, which theoretically allows for such customisation, and not iOS.

Sorry, if I gave you the impression that I was bashing Samsung, even though I don't know why you would need to defend them. I am sure that many manufacturers pander to the lowest common denominator. I am just a little frustrated (as an engineer) by their current decision making. I moved to Samsung, and the Note 1, because it was a unique phone that stood out. I took a lot of flack for that decision as I recall. I guess I just miss the uniqueness, although not enough to ditch my stylus.

IF the above is proven out, I might allow Marshmallow to install on my Note 4.

For right now, and the 1st time ever, Verizon has allowed me to table that decision for a later moment in time.
I find this totally out of character for Verizon. They have always rammed everything down our throats.
 
Should be true, AZ. I just went to Settings --> Backup & Restore and "Backup my data" is turned on. It also has the setting to restore applications and data. Jump on in, Marshmallow is fine :)

What are you all talking about? I have a VZ phone and definitely do not have Marshmellow! the system updaged on 2/6/16 to 5.1.1. And the only result I can see is that my OK Google no longer works! When I say OK Google, it comes up but I get no response to ANY command! Now that's what I call a real improvement.

I went and looked again at my Note 4, and it says I still have 5.1.1 so no Marshmellows over the fire here either.
don't know what that update was about, but with typical VZ largess, much to do about nothing.

I don't use the "OK Google" feature, don't want the microphone listening to me all the time.
I just press the Microphone button, I have it set to be on top of the Home Page.
 
Ah... so no one has Marshmallow for their Note 4 yet... with the new phones coming out March 11th, I bet the Note 4 don't get it. Any takers?

I agree with the thought. I'll be surprised if we get it at all. this whole flagship device thing sounds like a glorified title instead of something meaningful.
 
You know, after having the S7 Edge for a week now, don't see a lot of difference in performance between the Note 4.
Seems a bit faster, but not that big a difference. The Note 4 was working fine with the 5.1.1 so I think you all will be fine with it. I was fond of the Note 4 and still am... that is a great phone. The only reason I got a new one was because I was switching from AT&T to Verizon and couldn't use the Note 4 on that carrier.

Hi Jack,

That would not really surprise me to be honest. My Note, which has been running for the last 225 hours, has spent 0.6% of that time at the highest CPU clock speed. That means your phone, with its CPU that has twice the power, will only seem faster for a small fraction of the day. I can't imagine that a human will notice such differences. Since I don't have the same coverage problems you have, I will probably not be forced to make the choice to jump until the phone dies or this forum is completely deserted and I need to upgrade to get answers to my questions :)

Enjoy playing with your shiny new toy though. That fun I certainly am missing ;)
