Confused about app download when setting up new phone

OK here's the thing.

My wife and I have just upgraded from Samsung S7s to S9s. When I set up the first phone I signed into my main google account when prompted by the set up sequence. We have several gmail accounts. It then downloaded the home screen image and all the apps from my wife's phone. When I checked her S7 she was signed into one of the other gmail accounts. Naturally this phone will now become hers.

I now want to set up the second S9 as mine but I want it to download my apps and not my wife's.

I have not yet transferred the sim cards if that is of any relevance. Also I have not yet done smart switch on either phone.

Can anyone help me understand what's going on here? I'm completely confused.

Thanks in advance

SIM card should be nothing to do with it. It really should just be the Google account that determines this. So there is something strange here.

I know what you've already written, but are you certain that she doesn't have your account on her phone as well and that there hasn't been some confusion about which the backup was done using? That's the obvious mechanism for what you see happening.

Hi

Yes my account is on her phone and her account is on mine. I don't recall setting up the back up but may have done something inadvertently. I have also just discovered that all her contacts have appeared on my phone which is annoying. My contacts have not appeared on her phone.

Do you know how I can unpick this? I would like to set up the second S9 with my information and not hers.

I think I've figured it out. For some reason my wife's phone was set to back up to my account whereas my back up was switched off. I changed it and my new S9 has downloaded my apps as intended.

Thanks Hadron for raising the back up issue. I was completely unaware of it. The whole Google account thing can be very confusing at times.
