Confused with RAM

Hi guys.

I got an s3 on release date and beside a few minor annoyances I love it

One thing I'm confused by

My ram is 833mb but a friend of mine got a new s3 a couple of weeks ago but she has something like 1.7gb ram.

Why is this and shouldn't my phone be the same?

Both purchased from uk.

the LTE version has 2GB of RAM. maybe he has the gt-i9305 from EE. the rest of the uk have the non LTE gt-i9300.

RAM is also reflective of what is running at the time you check it, so if your friend had fewer apps open and/or running in the background, that phone would show more available (at least, that is the way it works in computers).

Well a phone will always have the same amount of RAM, but not necessarily available RAM. and since he(or she) said that one phone had 1.7 gb, that is the available on the 2gb version, and 833mb, that is the available on the 1 gb. its obvious someone has the lte version and the other does not
