Confusing software and UI

First and foremost, I'm a joke 7 victim. I miss that phone quite a bit and am trying to find a tolerable alternative. I just got the v20 and am very unimpressed. I'm not biased, I've owned 4 of the last 6 LG flagships, including the v10.

I have a few questions about the v20 though.

The most important answer I'm looking for...
Is there a way to turn off the auto unlocking of the phone from simply touching the power button via fingerprint?
Before you ask, I don't use the double tap. It constantly wakes up in my pocket if tap to wake is on, like every LG phone I've had since the g2. I strongly dislike it. I also strongly dislike the rear buttons completely. I don't like that I have to lift my phone from my work desk to turn the screen on. So now I'm already annoyed that I have to lift the phone, plus I have to use other fingers to turn the screen on or it complete unlocks. It's just a huge hassle over all. I don't wanna remove the fingerprints but I will have to if there isn't a way to turn it off.

Second, is there a reason the camera is so mediocre? It's pictures are God awful in both low-light and daytime. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting that downgrades the pictures?

Third, is there anything I can do about this ugly display? Any way to make it look better? It's dull and has poor colors. I'm almost embarrassed to show things to people from this phone.

Forth, what's the deal with the speaker? It's so unclear and bad. This has to be the worst speaker phone I've ever heard on a flagship smartphone.

Fifth, what I the actual difference with the 32bit audio? I have very good headphones and with the 32 bit turned on it make almost no difference in clarity. It sounds like its just a treble boost. I have all high quality music files too so don't blame that.

Sixth, why is battery life so bad? It's not even last until lunch with medium usage. I should have to carry 2 batteries to get at least a full work day. What can I do to make it better?

Again, I'm sticking with this phone for sure, at least until March. I'm not complaining just to complain or because I prefer Touchwiz. I just wanna make this phone a little more up to par with its price tag. So far, this isn't nearly worth $800. Maybe $450ish. There is nothing to boast about with this thing other than a removable battery, which I'd 100% sacrifice for water resistance.

Thank you to anyone that can help me make this work a little better for myself.
RIP Note7.

get a different phone. period.

I'd get into detailed answers but I already can tell you don't want to hear them - like say a political or religious argument. your mind is already made up and if you just loved the note 7 then you're jaded to start with and I can't blame you for that. Like getting the car you always wanted only to have it totaled out of your driveway the week after. you need to get either a pixel or an apple phone, with perhaps a nod to the galaxy non note.

if you are on a carrier that isn't VZ then maybe the one plus 3 would work for you but I doubt it.

Yeah, it simply sound like you don't like it. A lot of the things you're complaining about are what I like about it (eg the display and the fingerprint reader).

If you really are determined to keep it:

- you can set it up without a lock - it's one of the first things it asks you when getting it initialized, as I recall.

- Screen colour can be adjusted in the "comfort view" settings and, of course, brightness.

- I'll give you battery life. It's not awful, but it's not zOMG amazing either. Interestingly, it lasts very VERY well on standby, during calls, and while streaming music; net surfing, however, pulls it down faster than I'd like. Of course, when batteries are more readily available it's no biggie - just carry a spare and swap it out :)

- ditto the speaker. Coming from an HTC m9, the speaker is disappointing. That said, I usually listen in my car or through an external BT speaker, so it's no big deal for me.

- I've been happy with the audio both streaming through BT and plugged in. It may just need you to adjust EQ to your own taste. Not sure if there's an onboard way to do that as I haven't needed it, but if not, perhaps a 3rd-party app can solve it?

- I've found the camera not bad at all. I've been using it on auto, and have been happy with the images, especially on the ultra wide - it behaves like a street camera, very discreet and captures a ton. Obviously, it doesn't match my full-frame professional dSLR (I'm a pro photographer as well as musician), but for a phone camera? Sweet. What is it you're not liking and wish it did (or didn't do)? Maybe it's settings related.

Thanks for the input. I found the display settings to help. Battery life had been a little better today. You're right about the standby thing too. I turned off fingerprints to unlock and just use a pattern. I don't hate they phone, it's certainly decent. I guess I'm just a Samsung guy.

I've thought about carrying the stylus off my note 3 and velcroing it to the case I use. too much hassle I think but

It's one of the things from the note series I liked - but found I used less and less.

the audio quality of the V20 is amazing for a mobile - compared to others I've used/heard.

I like the screen the color bleed thing I guess I don't see - or don't have.

the battery life is lower than others as it is a smaller battery.

the UI is a bit different but then so is nougat vs lolipop that I can from.

I love the second screen

This phone was just falsely advertised. It's a huge letdown. The screen is ugly and has God awful viewing angles. The second screen really serves no purpose but eating the battery. The screen lights up CONSTANTLY when I don't want it to because or the fingerprint scanner being set to unlock without you pressing the button. It has no option to change that either, successfully compromising the ability to glance at the lock screen.

Thr camera is very, very inconsistent. It will take a decent picture now and then but most of the time it's bad. The video recording and sound recording being great was a lie. I recorded a song at a concert along side my brothers s7edge and the Samsung blew the LG away with both picture and sound.

The battery is no excuse. 3200 mah is not a small battery. Not enough to justify such a huge difference in battery life. I'm getting 2 to 3 hours of on screen time to get to 23%. That's pathetic for a phone marketed as an$800 flagship.

The stylus in the note is awesome but it's the software that makes me choose the note. But I can live without due to the situation this year.

The speaker has to be the worst I've ever heard. You can't even listen to music on it.

The front camera is very bad too.

The bugs are what pisses me off the most. This phone can't handle mainstream apps like facebook or NFL Mobile. Other apps force close constantly too. I can't even open NFL Mobile anymore.

The design is mediocre too. Very slippery and fragile. But, LG is known for piss poor design.

I will be getting rid of this soon if the replacement is the same.

Are you sure that you don't have a lemon? Mine runs fast, very reliably, most of the software problems you complain about are non-existent. By the way, you can see in my other but I got over 3 hours on screen time in a poor reception area and it cost me about 30% of the battery, which is actually pretty good compared to what I'm used to.

. Boat front and back cameras have been great. I have mostly been shooting on auto, but playing around with the manual camera has it being quite satisfactory as well

I'm not trying to say that you have to like it, but your experience has not been mine.

PS the second screen is one of my favorite features ! It uses virtually no battery at all. I have it on all the time, and while in standby the battery literally dropped by 0%

My only complaint, demonstrated beautifully in my previous post above LOL is that voice dictation via Bluetooth is really inaccurate !

Just return the phone and get your self something different.

But as for your finger print screen on issue.
Go to the finger print set up options.
And turn off the screen lock.
In my screen shot you can see mine is turned on.
Turn it off and you will have to press the button to wake instead.

what samsung software did you find you liked - and what do you think is missing?

speaker isn't meant for listening to music too - and neither is any other on any other smartphone with the exception of the few that had the 2 speakers setup. HTC I think - those were ok and they still sucked over all.

If you are having issues with apps perhaps you have something else on the phone that needs to come off or you need to do a reset. Facecrack works fine on mine - the nfl mobile I don't use so I don't know but that's put there by verizon assuming you have a VZ phone.

what else crashes - I've had no issue with mine other than a permissions fault with estrongs file explorer.

slippery yes - fragile no. that AL body with it's bead blasted finish is slick as snot in june. yes. fragile - no not that I can see. and I've dropped mine sadly twice.

screen viewing angle - again no issues here. how are you holding it - what angle are you wanting to see it at 172? colors are vibrant as any other mobile in the store. detail is fantastic. I do think the samsung AMOLED has better outdoor viewership. but only slightly and in bright sunlight.

thing is and I understand, your issue - what you want you can't have anymore so anything that isn't the note 7 you chose is going to suck. unless it's as close as possible - which a s7 or whatever is as close as you can get. as best as I can see today.

Personally I found most samsung software smurfed up what could have been a better experience. I will say I can't wait for them to separate from android and use their own OS on their own SOC's. I think that would be interesting.
