Connecting to PC

Hi, sorry to ask this probably basic question, but I am still struggling with certain functions of the OnePlus 3 (and Android!)

I would like to store some of the photos I had take with the previous Windows phone (RIP) as well as some music to listen to.

Nothing is quite as simple as it should be, eventually I managed to set the USB from "Charging" to "File Transfers" However when I look at the File Manager I see a list of files without any folders.

Do I need to run the Set up program, or the drivers file? Or even is it not necessary, and this is the storage place, where I can create folders etc to my hearts content?

Would someone be so kind as to explain what the various options are, and what the differences are?
File Transfers
Photo Transfer
Midi

It was so simple with the Windows Phone - Plug and go. Photo's, Music & files all easily and readily available.

Still made the jump, no use looking back!

Thanks very much for any answers / support you can give.

I would have asked on the official forum however I need to have given 5 answers before asking a question!

Best regards

Update,

Not sure precisely what happened, however when I put it into File Transfer Mode. The computer now recognises it as a drive, and I have now uploaded the Ringtones, a few pictures etc from the old phone.
