Connection Quality on Skype/Google Voice

Hi:

I have a question about calling on GV/Skype. I've noticed that I not infrequently drop cell calls using a cellular network, or, conversely, get intermittent poor signal warnings with poor quality when using Skype/GV using only wifi.

Here's my question: when using GV or Skype, is there an advantage to turning on *both* the cell connection and wifi at the same time? (I keep my wifi off most of the time for both security reasons and to preserve my battery.)

Ie, when using GV or Skype, do cell and wifi connections "back each other up," or doesn't it matter, and if I have to use one, which should I use? (Data usage isn't a problem for me, I never come near my plan limit.)

Thanks!

Bill
