Help Connection SG3 to Macbook Pro Problems

So, I recently purchased my brand new Samsung Galaxy 3 with Jelly Bean installed with a brand new unlimited data plan from sprint.

I quickly found out that there isn't any native way to look into the file system on mac so I installed Android File Transfer. This worked until I tried to root the phone a few different ways with scripts but it kept getting stuck at

When I used heimdall it got stuck at

Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
Failed to detect compatible download-mode device.
"
I tried to test an app with eclipse but it returnes that the connection wasn't made.

Now, the Android File Transfer doesn't even let me through saying
"
No Android device found
Please connect your Android device with a USB cable to get started.
"
Things that I have tried but doesn't work;
Re-set my Android to factory defaults.
Turned on USB debugging
Enabled install from untrusted sources
Toggled USB PC connections modes MTP PTP

Before I take a drastic measure in formatting and re-installing my macbook, can anyone push me some advice?

Holy cow dude, don't re-format your Macbook. That's not the problem. Root must have failed. or, Macs and samsung don't shake hands very well. just like Mac and Canon...Just look at all the hoops you have to go thru to connect your android to a Mac.

I have androids that still don't like my Mac Pro or Macbook Pro, so I just pull the card and add what I need that way.

Clear the cache, reboot and recognize that apple wants you to buy and iPhone...

This, and check your Macbook Pro settings and OS. I have OSX (lion) from 2011. It USED to not read my android AT ALL. I always get "Drive could not be read. Please try again later" which is a way of saying, "You're on your own bro". Idk what happened, but 2 months ago it started to connect to android easily. In fact, the AFT (Android File Transfer) opened on my pro and I can easily rearrange files, add, delete, transfer and even clear bloatware from my S3 through my laptop. Very easy and simple. My pro might have updated by itself for my phone to connect to it easily.
