Help ?Connectivity? problem

Hi there. I have just had a problem with my Galaxy Ace. I have had it for three days now, and there has always been a logo to the left of the signal logo that either said g, 3g or h (it kept changing, is this normal?). But just now it disappeared completely and I could not use the internet. I turned it off and on again, and it's now come back, but should I expect this to happen again? What did happen?

This is my first smartphone, so I'm a little dense about this sort of thing, so if you could explain it in simple terms please, otherwise my brain will explode, lol. Thanks in advance.

the E, 3g or H refers to the type og network you are connected, 2g, 3g, HSPA.

if this icon us not visible in notification means your data is off or you have no signal.

you can switch the data off from the network setting and make sure you have network coverage, my phone some times doesn't pick up network once it looses and restating can solve this problem but you can also go to mobile network setting and select a network operator manually..
