Considering buy a used phone off craigslist... helpnbb ,

I found a pretty good deal for a used droid on Craigslist and I'm pretty interested. The only thing holding me back is that she doesnt have a box or a charger so I'm thinking that it is possible a stolen phone. My concern is if I go to activate it and Its stolen that I will be blamed for it and screwed out of my money. Am I over thinking this?

Ask for the ESN/MEID number off the phone and call to see if it has been reported stolen. Even if they reported it lost and had it replaced through insurance, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to activate it.

So I should either activate it before I pay her or get the esn number and call on? That's exactly the advice I was looking for. Thank you.

Well, chances are you're going to need to look at it before you buy it anyways. A simple solution would be to ask him where the charger is. You could also play with the phone with the seller there. Since you're probably going to learn his/her name, just pop open the GMail app and see if there's any e-mails in there under his name. Might help you determine if the phone actually belongs to that person or somebody else.

Meeting them in the store, as the above poster mentioned, is a great idea as well. If the seller is reluctant, then you have your answer.

DROID takes a standard USB cable, and you can buy a 110 to USB plug for like $2 in alot of places. I wouldnt worry about the cord. BUT i would worry about it being stolen. Cell Phone stores (vorizon) on every block around here, just drive her and the phone to one and make sure its legit, then pay her.
