Considering upgrading to S5

I currently have an S4 which is a grey import to the UK (ATT brand). The screen had cracked together with the glass screen protector. Don't think I dropped it but am wondering if I caused it taking it out of the protection cover which is quite a tight fit. It is possible that the body of the phone twisted to cause this.

The reason for this post is with the S5 being a bit thicker is it more resistant to twisting.

Thanks for any advice.

dunno on that, never had an S4 for more than two days.... wife did not like it.
traded it for an S5 so it would be exactly like my S5.... set them up the same way.

I have had mine for 3 years and it does not even have a screen protector on it, neither does the wife's.
Both screens are just fine. I keep both phones in a very tough military style case that has protected both phones from a lot of abuse.

My Note 4 is in a leatherette folding case, looks like a book cover. i am forever dropping the darn thing, but the phone is still just fine. It does has a Gorilla cover on the face of it. Guess it was worth while as the PO managed to put a lot of gravel dings in the Gorilla cover...

I really like the S5 phones, the only reason I switched to a Note 4 was the larger real estate as my ole eyeballs don't see small fonts anymore.

Hi, the S5 is a good phone and now it isn't flavour of the month anymore with the "must upgrade" brigade it is available at a very realistic price. I say go ahead. I had the S5 but like AZ above, I find the Note 4 so much better as my old eyes appreciate the larger real estate as well, and the S Pen is a boon. Phil

Thanks to you both.

I have never looked at the Note series so have been watching YouTube vids and still cannot make up my mind. Like you, my eyesight is not as good as it was.

I can see that for gaming, films etc the Note is better, but cannot see that text is better. They seem to crowd more into the space rather than enlarging it. The icons look to be the same size - put 5 across instead of 4, but difficult to tell without having it in hand.

If I do get the Note it would have to be the 3 for my budget unless I go for 2nd hand or refurbished - you never know really how they have been treated or been refurbished by some amateur.

Anyway thanks for the help and any other thoughts you might have.

Assuming you're in the UK... where could you get a note 3, that isn't 2nd hand or refurbished?

Thanks - that's about the price.

On the 3rd one if you look at his feedback some of the phones are said to be clones. Wouldn't be surprised at that price.

I have owned 4 refurb phones to 1 new phone over the years.

I have yet to be disappointed in my choices.... once a phone malfunctioned, and Verizon swapped it for another phone that looked to be "brand new".... so how could I miss?

I have bought several off of www.swappa.com and none of those has ever failed me.

Thanks for the thought but I am in the UK so can't take advantage of that site.

Thought about that but Samsung have removed some of the sensors from the Neo.

Think I will go with the S5 as the waterproof tips the balance. On the S4 I have had to clean out the proximity sensor twice due to dust getting in there.

As a current S5 owner, I say do it. Even now it has great performance, camera and features for the price.

And with this phone getting cheaper and cheape, yet better and better I say it should last an odd 3 years before you get sick of it

Give it a go.

I recently upgraded from the S3 to S5. My wife and son both have the S4. I think the S5 is a worthy upgrade from the S4. It's faster, the camera is better, and (at least in my case) it has Marshmallow stock. I'm happy with it so far.

Thanks - good to know.

I have managed to get a new one but found that there are rough edges on 3 of the corners. I have sent it back for examination. Has anyone else come across this?

Before anyone asks - it is genuine Samsung - the IMEI etc checks out.

It is SM-G900F.

Have got the phone back now. The rough edges were caused by a clear protective tape around the bezel. Silly me for not noticing that but there was no indication it needed to be removed.

TOP TIP: There is usually a layer of protective film over the camera lens as well. ;)
