Consolidated List of Missing Functions After Jelly Bean Update

Regarding Droid Razr

Can we make a consolidated list of all the missing functions after the Jelly Bean update?

I haven't updated yet but have been reading the forums the best I can.

What exactly has irritated you after the update?

From what I have read there have been issues with:

1) wifi (older routers may need to be replaced)
2) no more tethering phone to computer (Verizon blocked ??) - questionable <usb / bluetooth ok?
3) no more mobile hotspot unless you pay (Verizon blocked this)
4) Alarm & Timer gone (per a commentor below it's under Clock - alarm is supposed to still be there)
5) Sticky Notes gone
6) Battery Life diminished (saw some saying can't charge from PC now when USB hooked up)

7) Weather widget gone... You'll have to find a different in the app store.
8) SLEEP function gone. ( I use this all the time )

9) Speed Dial is gone (someone suggested Direct Dial widget below in lieu)
10) Chrome internet browser is new browser
12) Change in the camera (some issues with recorder)
11) problem syncing contacts with FaceBook
12) Voice Dialing / Bluetooth possible issues
13) Favorite Contacts widget not showing the display image from Facebook. (per commentor below)
(found someone's workaround on a Verzion forum)

Please add to this list so we can easily refer to it. It will help many.
Much thanks!

Updated this note 4/9/13. I'm adding link to Motorola support page for info purposes. This may help others if you are looking for answers. I did not check their page before posting this thread. I found it helpful.

Alarm is gone? My roommate uses that all the time. USB tethering isn't gone...I see it on my phone.

Battery life has gotten better for both mine and my wife's phone, usb and blue toothtether still works only wwifi hotspot got blocked, I use my alarm every single day, and lastly I have an older router n had no problems connecting to it after the update along with an instant fdr afterwards!

Jelly Bean has no battery life improvement at all.

With my 4G on, I'm lucky to get a half a day of battery life.

Re: Alarm... YES.. per youtube videos the Alarm and Timer were removed. I've read this on other forum threads as well. I use it and not sure why they would take liberty to remove it. I guess you can go get a similar app in the play market.

RE: WiFi... Yes .. some are having problems. Found this discussed at the Verizon forums... If you have an old router you may have to buy a new one or request an updated one from your service provided. (I think this sucks. Why spend more money on things when they were broken to begin with? Maybe you can do this with your own but what if you are at a friends or familiy's place and they have an older one. You're out of luck.) Maybe a FDR works but that wipes everything.

Re: Tethering... I read some forums that said "free" tethering was gone. Messages pop up where Verizon tells you to pay the monthly charge. Isn't that double charging for data? Doesn't seem right to me. I also read that they are stopping unlimited data. Why offer this and then take it away?

Not sure where u have been, unlimited data went away well be4 the JB update, and rly has NOTHING to do with the update what so ever, u loose it once u sign a new contract! Also I'm not sure how u tube videos became the correct answer to anything!? I am on JB 4.1.2 and MY STOCK ALARM CLOCK IS STILL THERE I USE IT EVERYDAY! And tethering was NEVER free, there r apps like fox fi u cld use to gain access to free hotspot use, but I'm here to tell u that I also have used usb and blue tooth tethering threw fox fi numerous times since the update AND IT WORKS FINE! what they blocked was WIFI HOTSPOT, not usb tethering!

@djclemon

I have unlimited. I got it when I bought the phone in Nov 2011. So I guess you can say I've been grandfathered in or I have excellent negotiating skills. Also, no need to insult anyone. What's wrong with consulting various sources including youtube before doing an update? I've seen that the stock alarm is gone and I've read it in other forums. Can't be that everyone is wrong. If it's gone, it's gone. I CAN tether my current phone with ICS to my laptop and use the data without using an app. I don't use it all the time bc I don't want Verizon blocking it. I haven't done the mobile hotspot thing b/c I tether.. Hey, I hope you're right in what you're saying. But, honestly a lot of folks on various other forums on the internet aren't having the same success as you. I really don't want their headache.

nothing! but you need to make sure those sources are all correct and not just chicken littling because they couldn't find something immediately.

I've seen that the stock alarm is gone and I've read it in other forums. Can't be that everyone is wrong. If it's gone, it's gone.

i also use the stock alarm clock function, it just got rolled into the Clock app. the name may be different, but the function exists.

I CAN tether my current phone with ICS to my laptop and use the data without using an app. I don't use it all the time bc I don't want Verizon blocking it. I haven't done the mobile hotspot thing b/c I tether.

tethering also still exists, it just doesn't exist in WiFi form. it works in Bluetooth and direct USB form. unless, of course, you root. which is a different conversation altogether.

Hey, I hope you're right in what you're saying. But, honestly a lot of folks on various other forums on the internet aren't having the same success as you. I really don't want their headache.

a lot of people also don't really know how their phone functions beyond "the internet told me to do this, i did that and now this happens. then i updated AND THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN ANYMORE! IT'S BROKEN!"

if you can find people on forums whose post history shows that they actually know what they're talking about who are still complaining that the JB update broke their phone, then you can believe it. i'm sorry, but youtube vids showing that someone doesn't understand that the clock function was combined with the alarm function and that means the alarm function is GONE is not a reliable source.

Your facts don't jibe with my reality.

Your battery life is a function of how you use your phone.
Use the battery saver type functions they will increase your battery life.
You may need to do a FDR. I know it's a little trouble, but to me it was well worth the effort.
It helped my phones. (about 30+ hours of battery life on both phones.)
I did FDR on two phones and re-downloaded apps in a little more than an hour.

A few of the older WIFI's do need to be replaced, most do not.
My Netgear WIFI needed me to re-enter the password, and I was back in I business. My Brother-In-Law's 10 yr. old WIFI only half assed worked, and did need to be replaced.

I use my phones on WIFI at home and at work. I'm not a Hotspot user, so I guess you don't really miss what you never use.

BTW: My alarm still works.

Your post sounds like you have a beef with VERIZON WIRELESS. Not JB.

Insult? There was no derogatory remarks I made towards no one at all! I'm simply stating facts! Your trying to factually state what has happened with JB without ever upgrading to it! I have been on it for a gd month now, and I can FACTUALLY tell u that the "alarm" is still there, it's just simply called "clock" now, I am also "grandfathered" into unlimited data until/unless I upgrade with a new contract, and lastly the one and ONLY thing that got blocked with JB was the WIFI MOBILE HOTSPOT FEATURE, not "usb tethering"

@Ssith

All good comments. Thanks! Good points to remember. I haven't had first had experience yet with Jelly Bean but am so hesitant to install. I am only collecting problems as reported across various forums. Not everyone is an expert. I am just a novice and it can be extremely frustrating when these updates are pushed out. I appreciate your feedback.

@djclemon

Your tone of your reply came across the wrong way.
I don't doubt what you are saying and you are correct I haven't installed JB.
I am only collecting what problems I have read across many forums. Preparing myself and hopefully helping others.
Not everyone may be as technically advanced as you when it comes to updating.
This forum was set up for those that are looking for a quick reference of issues that have been reported. Please understand novice users may also come here searching for answers. If you don't have anything to report then please move to another thread. Your comments are taken under advisement.

i was worried i'd come off as a jackass. i do that sometimes without realizing it. i'm glad you took it as it was meant - constructively. and i do understand the "i like what i've got and don't want to mess with it" mentality. it's not a bad thing.

edit add: JB is, really, so much smoother than ICS ever was. people are having problems, sure, but people were also having problems with ICS - you yourself said that you didn't like the ICS update. yet now you fight to keep it. your problems went away, or you found ways around them. it's the same thing here. and that's kinda the beauty and allure of android. if you don't like something, CHANGE IT!

@Ole Man Dan

You're correct. Battery Life is a function on how you use your phone.
But I have seen reports of people complaining that it is not better.
When I updated to ICS I found it was draining more battery.
It may come down to me doing a factory data reset but I am holding out.
I may just root the phone and be done with all this silliness.

My beef with Verizon is only with them mandating an OTA update.
It's a pain and time consuming to have to learn what your phone can and can't do.
It's not fun. It should be optional IMO.

Is this thread about compiling a list for what is missing in the JB update and what, if anything, changes for the better/worse after the update?

Re: Alarm... YES.. per youtube videos the Alarm and Timer were removed. I've read this on other forum threads as well. I use it and not sure why they would take liberty to remove it. I guess you can go get a similar app in the play market.

Alarm and timer are now integrated in the clock app, that's where the stopwatch is as well. ;)

Yes, you are able to send messages in the stock messaging app to a group of people, by selecting multiple individuals.

My complaint is... that since Razr Maxx was released (I bought frist day) you have always been able to select a group of contacts directly from the people app and/or typing the group name into the recipient window. Or if you type in an individual who belongs to a group ... the phone would also suggest that group or other frequently contacted individuals.

Ever since JellyBean ruined my phone, I can no longer select a group to all at once. I have to manually add all x-number of individuals every time I want to send a group SMS. I work with multiple academic levels of medical residents, each with 10-15 people. When I send mass texts I can't select 100 people individually (or 5 groups of 20) ... selecting a group is a must.
