Conspiracy theory: just thinking out loud

big brother warning!!

i was just thinking about Google and Android and all that our phone gives to google.

where we are!
google account with our Credit Cards
all contacts on our phones, schedules, notes on friends
assess to everything in our phones (like what wavesecure can do)

with all that data and info about us that Google can get.
it is a little scary to think about it...

our government has done a lot of things that we dont know about. things they can or should do.. or should not do and dont say they did.
with the added controls that we give the government in the name to fight Terrorism. They could tap into Google and have all this access!!

what are your thoughts on this????

BTW: this is only something to talk about.. I am NOT a huge conspiracy person. But this does have possibilities of big brother tracking us.

If big brother cared enough, they'd bug your house, office and car. Just think of this as a way to profile so they don't have a need to take it any further.

if they are...
it dont make it right!!

to me.. I sure hope some 3rd party, someone, is watching Google / Android / Smartphone/ market apps to make sure we the citizens are not loosing our rights.. .without proper cause.

You can turn off the sync'ing with Google.
Also concerning the credit card info, I think a better target is the card provider, likie MC or Visa. Why mess with a small company like Google in comparison. Very few use Google that have credit cards.
Just my thoughts!

i see your point.. but this is about ... our phones and what we are faced with... data and privacy.

you can turn off a lot of things. or get a dumb phone.
but i was just pointing out.. as to start a discussion.
If you turn on all the things on the phone and allow Google to access data as was designed by android phone..

I see what the OP is saying. It is one of these things that we implicitly sacrifice for the use of great technology. Fortunately they give us the option to turn these things off, however some (maybemany) people may just skip right past that option in order to sync our phones with the cloud.

The Gov't doesn't need Google to achieve this... POST 9-11 has initiated the largest and most expansive intrusion by the U.S. Govt' into it's citizens PRIVATE affairs. I'm no conspiracy theorist either, but it is the NEW reality here.

If you do some homework on the subject, it will really scare the pants off of you. EVERYTHING you do electronically is recorded. For example, the Gov't authorities are now pushing for legislation to FORCE ISP's to preserve e-mails (no time frame) so that if needed they can collect them for investigative purposes. Sprint last year received 80 million location requests by authorities outside of a warrant. Location data, or triangulation requirements to locate ANY cell phone in the US was instituted post 9-11 as well... for public safety reasons ;) There is also a case to determine if you CELL PHONE enjoys the same protections as a diary, or the privacy as such. This is due to cell phones being seized and searched without warrant. The number of cameras used in public and PRIVATE establishments (stores, etc.) with face cognitive technology can actually track you and KNOW it's you. The use of credit/debit cards, E-Z Pass Toll collection systems, etc. and of course, GPS units... it goes on and on. Include the Social sites, retailers, marketers, book stores, grocery stores... all collect data too and it is a serious mess. Let's not forget the movement too to establish a national medical database... it just doesn't stop.

What's even more interesting is that here in the US you are less of an owner of your information that in say Europe. Try having you information removed from a search database, see how easy it is (it's not).

So... Google, yeah, I really don't use the account due to privacy concerns, but it really doesn't matter because if THEY want information about me, they can get it anyway.

Lol... who said:

"Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't watching me!"

just sayin' is all ;)

It's not really a conspiracy, it's just the way the world works nowadays.

Times change, and with it all manner of new realities come along with it. 100 years ago, most people didn't have a telephone, there were no computers, no driver's licenses, etc., etc. Privacy, and expectation of privacy, back then meant something completely different than it does today.

Because someone knows something about you, doesn't necessarily mean that it is a bad thing. The fact that Google knows my internet & communication habits, or everything that is on my phone (and they could, so there's no particular reason to think that they don't) doesn't mean that they're going to use it to a nefarious end. Quite the opposite, they could use it to make advances to quality of life that we can only imagine today (much as adults of 100 years ago would be amazed at how we live now).

Be aware of people or corporations or governments who are actively working to damage the individual or society, protect yourselves and others from them. But don't insist that we limit everyone to measures and standards that are outdated. The world changes, it's up to us to adapt.

Basically, they can have my info, but if they try to screw me with it, look out.

LOL!

... I see where your coming from. However, sine I do NOTHING WRONG in my life, and need no reason to be overly private about my matters, I don't care what data they get from me. As long as another 9-11 doesn't ever happen in the history of this country, I will give up a smudge of privacy just for that.

People today seem willing to give away their right to privacy. Disguise it as something 'fun' like Google Latitude or location tracking in twitter and people willingly let the Internet know their every geographical move. And what about these upstart sites with no background like Blippy? You know, the site that published credit card numbers of several of its users online, searchable through Google? People put too much trust in the wrong places today, and not enough trust in the right places. Disturbing.

Are you a criminal? If not then you have no worries.
If you have something to hide you should be paranoid. I for one don't care what other people know about me, Mostly cause I don't care what people I don't know think of me. As far as my friends and family go they all know I am a freak and are cool with it. :D

So why is your name REVTIME??? Why aren't you posting with your REAL name?
You know, there was a recent case where a Federal Judge actually stated something similar... that ONLY people committing CRIMES hide behind anonymity!
So I guess soon the use of P.O. Boxes will be illegal. Pseudonyms too, Ghost writing, etc. Hell, let's forgo names at all and just wear our S.S.#'s for ID, it would make things easier for sure. ;)

You should... not the thinking part, but the knowing part. It seems quite benign on it's surface, but the collection of data or information by a government on it's citizens has never been so(benign). HISTORY teaches us, or we repeat it.

Past President Gerald Ford said it... (a smart man no doubt)

A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.

So post 9-11 the Gov't has been given more and more power OVER the people, than by the people - actually for the people... I would think that HISTORY can and will show it's ugly head.

The F.B.I., investigated for the use of the so called and dreaded security letters was found to be highly abusive with such powers. You got to look at this stuff, it will make you sick.

Lastly... again... HISTORY!

"First they came ..."
is a famous statement attributed to Pastor Martin Niem

S

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

I'll leave with that for a while, think about it.

yes.. history is full of examples of the population.. ignoring the warnings.. because it was at first not about them.

we are giving up our rights for the better good...that is always how it starts. easier to take it... when you think it is for the better good.. one stone at a time and before you know it; you are in a stone jail.

Well my name is Mike, hows that for anonymity. Lol
And trust me my paranoid friends have enough guns that we will go down in a blaze of glory if it ever comes to that.
This isnt the 50,s anymore, if you think the same rules apply your deluding yourself.

I think that we all live with so delusion...

Ones that think no one is doing bad things..
And
Ones that think everyone is doing something bad...

We all need to be aware of or environment

They don't even have to do that old school stuff. Just remotely install an app to bug your cell phone (about any type). Even if the phone is off they can still listen through the microphone to everything you say to anyone near the phone. Plus both sides of every phone call you make or receive.

The FBI appears to have begun using a novel form of electronic surveillance in criminal investigations: remotely activating a mobile phone's microphone and using it to eavesdrop on nearby conversations. The technique is called a "roving bug," and was approved by top U.S. Department of Justice officials for use against members of a New York organized crime family who were wary of conventional surveillance techniques such as tailing a suspect or wiretapping him.

And, this article was written in 2006! Imagine the advancement of technology since then! I guess I better wrap my cell phone in tin foil also! ;)

Yep!!!

Only way to kill it is to pull the battery, lol, something, the fan boiis CAN'T do.
lmao... hehe, a huge reason I don't like ANY device that can't have it's power disconnected. not that I'm paranoid mind you.

;)

You guys would shit your pants if you knew what the usgov's Kingfish does. In fact.. half the people here probably wouldn't even believe it's possible.
