Help Constant sync symbol and battery drain

Not open for further replies.
So after reading nearly 10 different forums, and probably 200 posts. I've finally found what was causing this. I had accidentally left a draft in my gmail which is auto saved every five minutes, but not accessible by my phone (For what reasons I don't know).

Anyways. Logging into gmail and deleting the draft from the drafts folder immediately cleared this up after my sync symbol had been going for nearly a week. If you are having this issue I would try this out.

I have a HTC Incredible 2 (Viwow), S-Off'd, rooted, and running the ViperINC ICS rom, but I'm sure there are other phones this can cause a problem on. I had gotten the symbol to go away before bed last night, but when I woke up this morning it was back.

Kind of stupid that something this simple caused me so many problems for the last week. Wish I would've noticed it sooner. Luckily I have unlimited data. This issue could've caused some people to have to pay extra on their bill.

This is good news. I am not sure this has been reported anywhere, but I'l be sure to make a note that it needs to be spread around.

Thank you for coming back to tell us what fixed the problem. :D

Indeed. Glad to know this personally. I know that others will as well.

Hey Guyz & Gals, I would like to add to the list of culprits that might be causing this problem for those that are having it.
for me it was when I used CleanMaster Phone Booster to disable YOUTUBE from starting and running in the background.
Only after trying everything listed prior in this forum most notable Unicorn512's post was I able to narrow it down.
I systematically started clearing the Data & Cache of anything that uses Sync or anything with the word GOOGLE or OWNED BY GOOGLE (YOUTUBE in this case) on it. As soon as I deleted the Data & Cache of YOUTUBE...POOF!!! Problem gone...But only Temporary becuz it comes back a minute later trying to access Sync again.
I then had to go into Clean Master and Re-Enable YOUTUBE to start and run in the background and let it have it's way with my phone once again...SMH...LOL

I hope this helps anyone looking for additional answers.

P.S...Don't forget to ReBoot.

Alright - Her's what I noticed. Just put cyanogenmod 7 on my LG G2x P999
sync was staying on regardless what I would do (like all of you)
went to applications and put all my downloaded apps to SD card.
You tube - you tube - I'll say it again You Tube was the culprit
As soon as I moved you tube to SD card - sync icon disappeared.
But it just did reappear a minute or two ago.
I'm going from here - Let me know if anybody has the ultimate answer
Thanks

OK - part 2
after the sync icon came on after moving you tube to the SD card
here's what I noticed
you tube was kicking on by itself a few times and the icon came on.
I would hit force close and the icon went off each time.

Now to find out WHY you tube keeps kicking on

OK - part 3
I deleted the You Tube app. And that stopped the sync mess.
I use you tube through the web browser since my gmail account is signed in.
Might depend on the version you have - But
that was the situation I had
Hope that helps somebody

So I have been banging my head with this on a Samsung Galaxy S2 that I was recycling for my kid. Something was constantly trying to synchronize, keeping the sync icon on, and eating the battery. It is definitely the YouTube app for me as well. Temporarily force close it and sync is fine, roll back to stock version and fine, etc. Unfortunately this is an unrooted phone and I can't completely uninstall the app or disable it. With the roll back I've disabled the Google play store update and see if that does the trick.

Basically there seems to be an issue with the newer YouTube app and older versions of android ( 2.3.3 on this phone ). Given my experience with Google and these things good luck in seeing it fixed.

I've got an older phone too... an HTC Desire S running Android 2.3 My phone is also not rooted.

I had turned off automatic syncing, and had tested each account by syncing them manually and all was good. But when I turned automatic syncing back on, it would immediately get stuck in syncing mode. So was at a loss as to what was causing the phone to be constantly trying to sync.

I found this thread here. Uninstalled all YouTube updates and hooray, the syncing problem has gone away. (Or at least, has done for the last half hour which is enough evidence for me because it was previously constantly in a syncing state.)

Well done to the recent posters for spotting this. Would never have chanced across the solution myself!

This is not likely to be your problem, but having the wrong time set on your phone can break sync. I know someone who uses his Droid on Wifi only in airplane mode, and he has to turn off airplane mode every so often so the phone can update the precise time from the network. Otherwise he gets sync errors.

Yeah I was having the same issue after upgrading rom then going back to 2.3.3. I have my play store settings set to manual updates only but yesterday decided to update all and that is when the trouble started. In in my case the sync warning specifically mentioned google music. So I did a factory reset and updated everything except the google stuff. Could be YouTube in my case too (now frozen on my system) but I would suggest manual updates for everything google related.
