Help Contact Favorites

I have the MAXX as well as my bro. My bro is having issues with his contacts. When trying to add or remove a contact to or from his favorites list the star will change like normal then when he lets go it changes right back to what it was before he tried to change it. I recommended a factory reset, which he did, and it still does this. He has his contacts set up with Backup assistant and I have mine set up with google. Has anyone had this issue or know a fix for this?
