Can anyone tell me how to go in and set specific ringtones for certain contacts in my phone? I went to contacts that way and it just shows me the prerecorded ringtones on the phone?

i went to that and it is still showing just the preloaded ringtones

Open the contact you want to specify the ringtone for, hit Menu, select Options, you'll see Select Ringtone.

make a folder called "ringtones" on your sd card and put the mp3's in there that you want to use as ringtones and they will show up when you hit select ringtone in people.
You can also get the excellent app called "ringdroid" and use that to chop up mp3's already on your phone and make them into short ringtones. It also offers you the option to use it as a ringtone right after you have made it.

Ringdroid is great. You can edit an in and out point in any track you have on the phone and you then get the option to save it as music, ringtone,alarm or alert.
Once you've done that you just go into the contacts or alarms or text alerts etc and use the purpose edited tune.
