Help Contacts don't update to Gmail

Hi, first post.

Only just realised that my contacts don't update. My calendar updates OK to gmail.

I have already checked on settings - backup and reset - backup my data is ticked

The phone book has auto sync data ticked.

Any suggestions what I should do next?

Well are the contacts saved to Google? On a phone, there are two places you can save the contacts: Phone Only and Google. If you had been saving to Phone only, it won't sync.

Hmm, you right, made a dummy new entry into my contacts and it defaults to saving to "phone only"

Is there a way of changing the phone contacts to Gmail ones?

Dont know what phone or android version you have, but on a samsung:

Open your contacts app

menu button
merge with google

Thanks - taken me a while to come back to this topic.

I have a Sony X3 Xperia Compact.

I don't have that menu option on my phone..
Anyone can help?

You can try exporting the contacts to SD card, then importing them again, this time choosing Google as the import location. You'd have to delete all the other phone contacts though, and make sure all new contacts are being saved to Google.
