Help Contacts in my Droid Razr Maxx do not show

Has anyone had the problem that when you type in a contact's number, the name or info does not come up on the phone? But once you hit the call button the phone call shows it going to that contact you were looking for? But then if I try to search for that same number or name in the contacts it does not show? My boyfriend has this problem on his razr maxx and I also had the problem on the regular razr and he had the problem on the thunderbolt. This is obviously a droid issue...is it saving some of the contact info to the sd card or internal memory on just a few of the numbers and why? what can I do about it?
 
Wow, thank you, I didnt realize there were so many options to displaying groups and contacts. It also shows SD card options and SIM card options. Not sure what is the optimal or best options for myself, but I will be able to figure it out more now. I am so glad I asked this question, how did I not know there is a menu for organizing and exporting/importing contact information? Thanks again!! And keep the suggestions coming, I have alot to learn on my Maxx obviously, but the battery and the phone itself rocks!!:)
