Contacts names not showing up on screen for texts/calls?? HELP!

Out of the blue this started happening... id get calls and texts from people on my contact list and only the phone number shows up, not the name! I have rebooted twice, and done a batter pull. Still nothing.

This is so annoying cause of course i know like 3 numbers by heart from my contacts list

You likely have an application which is slowing down your contacts db lookups. I ran into the same problem and documented my findings and possible workarounds on my blog here but could never find a definite root cause.

In my case, removing Missed Calls seems to have fixed it although it still does happen once in a blue moon rather than every day or two like it used to.
