Help Contacts stopped working

deltaskye

Lurker
Not sure if this is the correct forum, but since I own the Droid 4 I thought I'd start here.

About a week ago my Contacts stopped working. When I turn on the phone I get the message "Unfortunately contacts has stopped working." I cannot pull up any saved contacts for texting or telephoning, and I can no longer see the phone numbers of people who called me (I can see it while the call is ringing, but not access it afterward).

I've been reading various forums, and I understand that I may have unknowingly deleted something when I deleted other unwanted apps. I thought I carefully deleted apps such as games or map apps.

On other forums it appears this may be related to Google/Gmail. However, I use Outlook as my primary email account and Gmail rarely. And I haven't arranged to retrieve my Gmail on my Droid (unless that capability is defaulted with the phone).

I've read some fairly complicated instructions on how to possibly correct this issue, but I don't understand any of them, since all I do with my phone is make/receive calls and emails, text, and occasionally use an app. For example, I don't understand whether the instructions are for manipulating the phone directly, or for accessing the solution via my PC.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome to Android Forums.

When you said "I though I carefully deleted apps such as games or map apps." ... how have yoi been deleting them?

Is your phone root-ed?

... Thom

I went into Manage Apps, selected each app, then selected Uninstall. Rinse, repeat for each app. :o

I just quickly read a definition of "rooting," but I don't quite understand it. If a phone comes rooted, then I haven't knowingly done anything to un-root it. If rooting requires me setting it up, I have not done so.
