Contemplating a switch

Title says it. I've been with VM for close to a year now, and initially the service was great. Now I'm noticing some alarming issues. (2 phones, both F3's, stock, no root whatsoever)

1. Service in my area has gone from wonderful, to compete crap. I used to be fine in my home, now I get missed calls/texts, and the data is very spotty.

2. I enjoyed how their customer service reps admitted to be that there were fraudulent charges on customers accounts, and that the affected accounts would be compensated in the future. My account was one impacted by that, and I'm yet to see those minutes credited back to my account.

3. The update from v6 to v7. That had me pissed. It turned the f3 belonging to my fiancee to complete crap. Ended up having to have tech support send her a refurbished unit. My f3 downloaded the update just fine, but refuses to install it. Every time out pops up, I click ok, only to see a Dead android image in about 30s.

I'm contemplating a move to T Mobile. Anyone out there have experience with them?

Is Sprint/VM upgrading towers in your area? While they're doing that service gets worse for awhile.

As far as reception - every area is different. You could ask other people in your city how their signal is. You could also post your city here in case someone nearby is reading this.

Here are three sites that track carrier reception strength from users:

Unbiased Wireless Network Information. From people just like you - Sensorly
3G and 4G LTE Cell Coverage Map - OpenSignal

T-Mobile coverage map:
T-Mobile 4G Network | Check Your Coverage | T-Mobile Blazing Fast 4G Coverage

I switched to T-Mobile and it has been a huge improvement; then again, as others state, it all depends on what carriers have the best coverage in your area.

If you can afford to have a $700 hold on a credit card, T-Mobile offers a one week free "test drive". They send you an iPhone 5s that you can use for a week; the phone has unlimited talk, text and data. At the end of the week you merely return the phone to a local T-Mobile store.

Don't give up just yet. Did you update your PRL's ? I had the same trouble about 6 months ago (they were doing tower upgrades in my area) even though There is 4g @ the end of my street, but not at my house. But after updated the PRL's, my signal has been good.

Settings->more->system update.

Sorry for the delay in a response, it's been a rough week.

Yes, I've updated the prl, to no avail. Granted I may not be a super user, the issue is that the data connection is blatantly sporadic at my home. This started beginning problematic two months ago, which has me concerned.

Looking at Virgin's coverage map, I see that there are issues with wimax in my area (which would explain parts data issue). Interesting notion that the 4gLTE coverage is MUCH better than the wimax.

Which initially lead me to think that maybe just an upgrade to the handset is needed. I am very curious about the gs3/4, but I hate to make that kind of investment in a VM handset, only to have the same issues, and then deal with transferring service to a different carrier. And, upon further investigating, realizing that the F3 is an LTE handset.

As far as tmobile reception goes, their maps show significant coverage at my home and work. On par with the VM LTE coverage.

Thanks for the info everyone, I do appreciate it.
