Control your iPod with your Android?

I have a T-Mobile G1, and I spent a long time searching for a way to remotely control my iPod touch with my phone. I usually have it on a stereo and I would really like to be able to control it from a distance. Are there any apps or other methods to make this possible? It seems like it would be fairly simple if they are both on the same wifi.

It's not as simple as you might think. Apple devices are not designed to be remotely controlled in the first place. That's a huge barrier right there.

Actually

There's an app for that...

Can't remember what it is called, but if you search in the apple support forums for audio remote control pc or something like that or search for my name jamie dolan and look at the last couple conversations I had on there.

I think you would have to control via a pc and use something like Splashtop on the android to get to the PC, but I think it would work.

Bump!

We have an old iPhone in a boom box dock that we are using to play music in our kids bedroom. It would be great if I could wirelessly (preferably via WiFi) control the iPod app on the iPhone with my Android phone, for example, to stop bedtime music from playing without having to enter the room. Any ideas?

The only apps I have found either control iTunes on a PC with a phone or vice versa, nothing that lets me control a iPod or iPod app on an iPhone with an Android phone.

This discussion caught my eye. That would be great if we could control our iPods with an app off our Android phone. If anyone knows the name of such app let us know!

Totally 100% possible!

Did it on the weekend myself, using a VNC remote desktop app

Not sure if you can do it without an un-jailbroken iPod, but you can certainly do it with a jailbroken one...

You need:

iPod - Veency (from Cydia)
Android - PocketCloud (Free version - I tried heaps, and this was the best for a number of reasons)

You need to ensure port 5900 (TCP/UDP) is open on your router, so the two will communicate. Set up a static IP address on the iPod at very least (this will ensure it connects easily every time). I'd also set on up on your Android too, simply because you might have a crap router like I do, which causes problems otherwise.

Set the two up, and you're off!

You might notice that you can sometimes connect to the iPod, but you'll only have a black screen - this is because the iPod screen is off, and/or locked - simply tap and hold on your Android, which will act the same as pressing the home button on the iPod.

Note for swiping, you need to touch, hold, then swipe - otherwise you just end up panning the iPod screen on your Android.

Enjoy!

I was also motivated to be able to control my iPod from my HTC Rezound this weekend. I was listening to Pandora with my iPod touch on a speaker dock, and decided that is would help promote my laziness if I could control the music without actually walking up to the dock (I've got a basic Phillips dock with no remote). I came across this thread, and also found another resource here which provides more details on getting the iPod side of things configured. My iPod is running software v4.2.1, so I was quickly able to jailbreak it and add Veency. I also tried a couple programs and agree with the previous post that PocketCloud is definitely the best VNC tool out there for controlling an iPod remotely.

Now for my question... With my iPod on the dock, I'm able to fully control it using my phone, however I can't adjust the volume. When using Pandora, a message at the bottom of the screen displays, "No Volume Available". This is because volume controls on the iPod are not available when it's docked (you're forced to use the manual controls on the dock). Has anyone figured our a work-around for this that allows you to control volume remotely through the iPod? I realize that this question is better suited for an iPod forum, but you wont find me posting in one of those...
