Controlling screen orientation

Hi,

I have the 7 eleven fuel app installed on my Android phone. A link to the app is below.

This app always runs in portrait mode. However, when I check the device rotation settings by pulling the notification shade down, it’s always set to auto rotation.

How is this achieved via programming? There are games also that force landscape orientation. How is that done?

So I can't have a look and try it for myself. But it all depends what the developer decides I think when they build the app, like if their app supports rotation or not, or only runs in portrait/vertical mode, etc.
