Install the 2.1 gallery from alldroid.

Yes you are talking about the 2.1 gallery which was ported over to the droid. Google bought/Licensed Cool Iris technology to implement in their apps.

Search for the 2.1 gallery on 2.0.1

It's also there on almost any ROM if you're rooted...but you don't have to be.
