copy or back up phone

Is it possible to copy or back up an entire phone to another one? Would they have to be identical or is both Android good enough? How would it be done without a computer?

I mean everything: phone numbers, messages, photos, videos, music, game data, all of it.

It might depend on whatever it is phone you've got. I know with Oppo and Vivo they can do just that using a removable USB drive, no computer needed. If it's a Samsung there's Smart Switch, which I think does require a computer however.

It's nothing that good, just a cheap ZTE Fanfare 2 with only 8 GB. It has a 32 GB SD card which I thought would help more than it apparently does. I've been thinking about getting a Coolpad Canvas with 16 GB for about $55. Would that be a good deal and can I transfer everything from this to that?

On most droids, you can use Google to back up Contacts, Calendar, Settings and Photos. When you get a new phone - as I did a couple of weeks ago - everything restores beautifully. All the apps I had installed themselves - I even got my screen layout and background image back.

The only things that weren't restored were my music, podcasts and other files I had on the phone. There's probably a way to avoid having to do even that using Google Drive, though I haven't tried.
