Apps Copy protection for market apps / disappearing apps

Hi all,

I have a few themes on the market and yesterday I got an email from someone that he could not find my theme. When I checked for myself, he was right, thry were not there. After plenty of searching I found that some people had trouble with copy protection on their apps. At first, I didn't thin k this could be the problem because I have always had copy protection on my themes and had always been able to find them on the market.

Just to be sure, I tried removing the copy protection. Voila! They appeared on the market again. I assume that the real problem was that I had recently installed a new version of the Bugless Beast rom, just after Pete had added in some stuff from the 2.1 dump. From what I have read, it seems that even stock roms have trouble with C.P. apps until google fixes the market or something like that.

My issue is that I would like to keep them copy protected, but I want them to be available to any android user. Yes, I want to have my cake and eat it too. Does anyone know if there is a way around this?

From what I understand there is no legitimate way of achieving what you are asking. It is how google controls apps on the marketplace. Basically all ROMS need to be signed by google to access encrypted/copy protected apps. If a ROM isn't accepted by google, they can't access the copy protected apps. There maybe another way around it,not entirly sure though.

This may or may not have effect but non copy protected games have a limited number of uses (not sure if this is an aspect of the non copy protection or an intentional flaw from the developer) One of the games I play (I am one of those with an issue of missing apps) The designer released a non copy protection version of the game, however it only had 100 plays then didn't work. As stated not sure how or why but thought you might need to know about it.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will leave them protected. It seems that the newest rom update got them to show up. That solved one of major concerns.

Also my downloads seemed to have slowed down significantly. I found this odd since my downloads tend to increase on the weekends, but today they seem to have picked back up. Perhaps it was just an anomaly.

I was also concerned that if I left them unprotected the graphics could easily be transferred to someone's device, copied, and possibly refunded, as they could repack the graphics themselves. However unlikely the scenario, my paranoia wants them protected. And if there is a greater chance that someone who who be smart enough to do that would also be running an unsigned rom, then protection is my safest way to go.
