Copying old MP3 files from Linux to Android

Hi,

I'm very new to Android. I have some questions about MP3 files which sound easy, but I can't find exactly what I need to know in this forum, or the WWW.

I have many old MP3 files that I ripped 10 years ago. I want to copy them from my linux machine to my Android phone. I did that. However, Android doesn't seem to know the artist, and there's no album art, etc. This makes sense because the application I used to rip this 10 years ago was very primitive, and sophisticated MP3 players didn't exist.

My question is this: is there a site or webpage which describes how Music directories work in Android and how Android figures out Album art, and how it figures out what the artist is for each song? I have about 10 gbytes of music I ripped from CDs I own, and I'd like to put the correct metadata (or whatever it's called) in there and I'd rather not rip all those CDs again because there's almost 300 of them.

Very simple: ID3 tags. That's how android gets the music info.
