Help Copying profile from one device to another

Hi all,

(Feel free to move this to a more appropriate sub-forum/folder if need be.)

I've been using a Samsung On5 (cell phone) as my only Android device for some time now. I just got an RCA Galileo (tablet) for Christmas. While setting up the tablet, it asked if I wanted to use my current device profile (my wording may be off) from my cell phone. Made sense to me, so I went ahead and did it. It copied all my info, apps, etc, from my cell to my tablet. But I'm left with a couple of questions.
  • I had named my cell phone as "Dave's Cell", and now my tablet has the same name. How do I change it to "Dave's Tablet"?
  • Was copying everything from my cell to my tablet a one-time thing, or will they always remain in sync with each other like a cloud?
  • Is there any way for me to choose to use some apps (ok, I'm thinking games mostly) in a cloud-like manner so that my saved-game files can be used from either device?
I think that's probably it for now. If I come up with any other questions, I shall post them here. This site is awesome & I thank each and every one of you has has offered help to me over the course of my Android-loving tech usage.

To change the display name of the device go to https://play.google.com/settings and log into your account. Then click on the gear icon in the upper right and you should see your devices listed there. If two different devices are named "Dave's Cell" just edit the tablet to what you want. You'll be able to tell by device model number.

If sync was setup on your phone, your tablet should sync, too. But, for certain things like images they will only be synced one way ... to the cloud. You'll be able to see everything on each device but they will reside locally only on the device from which they originated.

As for sharing game /app data in the cloud, that would be up to the developer to include that function and would be on an app-by-app basis.

Ugh....y'all ain't gonna believe this. What I thought was the "name" given to my cell (and subsequently my tablet)? Turned out to be the locked screen message. I found it under Security settings. :p

Here's a thought for creating my own cloud-like game saves. Would it be possible to use DropBox (or something similar) on both my cell & my tablet, and then just drop the games in there? I'd really like to continue playing a game I've been using on my cell phone, but do it on my tablet instead since the screen is much bigger.

I can give you a definite maybe on that one. Many developers save game data in encrypted formats to keep people from cheating or hacking. Now if the key is tied to your account, then it my work, but if it's tied to the device, it won't.

Specific game? contact the developer. They can be almost human sometimes. ;) :D
