Help Corrupt text messages?

I sent a text to my friend in the UK this morning (I'm in the US) and he's just texted me saying "I keep getting corrupt messages from you."

What does this even mean and how can I fix it? I asked him about the nature of the texts but he hasn't responded, so I hope my question hasn't been corrupted too. I don't want to be sending him strings of nonsense because that would be annoying for him and worrying for me.

Any ideas? I'm using T-Mobile (with the $10/mo unlimited international texting plan) and the stock SGS3 messaging app. I was wondering if I should switch to a 3rd party messenger but wanted to check here first.

Try going to Messages -> Settings -> Input settings. Try setting it to automatic first.
