Cracked my screen, wondering how this will play out.

My device is an F60.I don't have much money so I plan on buying the fierce 2 to tide me over for a month or two.

My billing cycle just started over yesterday, they won't do anything stupid like try to make me pay another month of service, will they?

Also, if I buy the phone, my current plan is the $50
unlimited - will I lose this grandfathered plan, seeing as how this phone is not an LTE phone? Will I still have to pay the $15 activation fee?

Pretty sure the $50 promotion applied only to specific LTE phones, so in that case yes you would lose it permanently if you change to a non-eligible device. Changing back to an eligible device later won't matter.
The $15 fee applies if you get the phone at a store, but not if you order it online or get it from a third-party Metro vendor (i.e. Best Buy).
