Help Cracked Note 4 - Repair or Replace??

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for posting in this forum, but I couldn't post in the Note 4 forum directly.

I just upgraded to the note 4 less than a week ago - yay! but after 10 years of never having a broken phone, i dropped this and cracked the screen - LCD is still fine.

So i had a question about rather I should replace the whole phone through Asurion at the $199 deductible or take it to the local shop who will replace the broken screen for $140? Should I check what type of glass they use for the repair? Is it worth the extra $60 just to make sure I have manufacture spec?

Any feedback would be great since I wasn't as update to date with all the specs on the note 4 and have never had this problem.

Thank you in advance!

Ask the repair shop if they will use an OEM part. Likely they will. If so I'd get it repaired. In fact, since it's just the glass, I wouldn't be too concerned about using aftermarket glass.

Thanks for the quick reply! Also, after reading more about this, I am thankful it was just the glass and not the LCD also. Lesson learned and something to keep in mind when you move to a larger, heavier phone - hold on tighter!

Thanks again

ummm think about it... GORILLA - GLASS? which one do you think the emphasis is on? My money is the glass part...think about it.. let's call it titanium GLASS..or strongest material on eath GLASS.. still fails on the GLASS. Just saying...

The note 4 uses gorilla glass 4. I'd insist on oem.

But that didn't seem to help you much on the first go...

So what do you propose? The word "glass"is mandatory. Until we develop clear titanium, or some other material, it will probably be "glass".

Nano Glass is probably the next step. Upon impact, all the nano glass particles converge on the impact spot to strengthen it and prevent cracking. Or better yet, cracks are automatically fixed.

So in the end, well be calling it "glass" for a long time, and the emphasis will be on the word "glass".

Hey Everyone,

Ended up getting the glass replaced with OEM for about $140. Still less than the deductible for the insurance = D. Great repair job. Threw on a spigen case (since the previous case didn't do anything) on and an HDX screen protector. Definitely happy but still getting used to the extra weight from this phone!

so im not sure if youve done anything with your phone yet but i myself am a samsung rep at a call center. if you go with the 199 deductible through asurion you WILL get only a refurbished phone. its not very great to trade a 10 day old note 4 for somebody elses refurb. you can send phone into repair with us for a repair amount of 193 dollars and that same phone you send in will be the same phone you get back. only draw back is that you will be about a week and a half to two weeks without your note 4. however you can contact your carrier for a loner phone while your phone is in for repiar. they do have the ability to do it its just at theyre discretion of whether or not they will. or you can just use another smart phone to switch service over to. now that your screen is cracked your phone is outside of the manufacturers warranty. if you get a refurb there will not be any warranty through samsung at all at that point. and if you get a repair done through a local 3rd party there will also be no warranty through samsung. but if you do send it in to get repaired through us that WILL reinstate the warranty on the phone for another 90 days. so lets say you get the screen replaced through us and a week later all of a sudden the microphone on the phone stops working. as long as there is not additional physical or liquid damage we would completely cover that free of charge. Hopefully this kinda helps you make an educated decision on what you want to do :)

I feel that this is great information. I always wondered about that. Thank you.
