Create a dock shortcut that launches menu of apps

Seems like there ought to be a simple solution to this, but can't figure out how to do it.

I'm using Launcher Pro Plus on a rooted Captivate. I want to create a dock shortcut that takes me to a menu populated with different apps to choose from (for instance a games menu). I know how to create a widget that will do this with Tasker, and I suspect that LP's shortcut maker will do it, but I've yet to find a good tutorial on how to use it if you're not already a dev. Thanks in advance!

I love this App, very user friendly. I can create all my catergories using my own icons which leaves lots of space on my Home Screen for my widgets

I tried this one and I liked it. There was also another app I tried, but it wasn't free. You could put the widget on your home screen and click on the category and it would launch the list that you created. I can't think of the name, but I liked that one.

I'm using something similar AutoAppOrganizer, it tried to categorize everything automatically and you can still define things, plus it has a Newbie category to throw new apps in, and it will tell you what apps you haven't opened in a specified timeframe. Seems as stable as Apps Organizer so far, one thing is you can't as easily add your own categories since it is using some criteria to determine categories itself, but that isn't really an issue to me. I am only seeing the icon anyway, not the category name.

Can you create a folder of apps and just put that in the dock? I haven't tried that and don't have my phone on me at the moment, but if you can just put a folder down there, that would do pretty much exactly what you want, right?

I use smarter shortcuts to make folders of apps then use desktop visualizer to change the icon of the folder to whatever I want. I used folder organizer until it started resetting the icons to stock on me. Haven't had any issues with new method so far

I'm having issues with all these sorts of apps, it seems occasionally I'll install an app that stalls the internal indexing of each one of these somehow, then will end up preventing my homescreen widgets from loading. So it turns into a time-wasting PITA to resolve. I wish there were just a way to add custom icons to basic folders as that is the easiest route for me anyhow, I only try using these apps so I can get the fancy icons
