Creative alternatives to nonexistant 8" phablet?

keninct

Lurker
I don't make many calls, so most of the time my (Verizon) Note 3 is used as an undersized 4g-enabled tablet. I'd like to go larger, but it seems nothing in the 8"+ range has normal cell phone functionality, and I can't forego voice entirely. Anyone have creative suggestions for a guy like me? I researched, for example, going with a smartwatch for phone, plus a small tablet. But, at Verizon at least, it seems like there are no true stand-alone smartwatches that are permitted without a companion phone.

I just wish they would make an 8 or 9 inch phablet. I don't care, I'll hold that sucker to my ear in a pinch.

Welcome to Android Forums!

Other than a Galaxy Mega, I don't know what to tell you. That's about the biggest phablet I know of with voice capability.

Asian 3G variants of the Samsung Tabs are voice call capable. The Galaxy Tab A 8.0, Galaxy E 8.0, and Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 are all voice capable. At least the versions sold here.

There's plenty of 7, 8 and even 9 inch phablets in Asia, mostly Chinese. But they're NOT going to work with Verizon though, i.e. a US CDMA/EVDO network. Verizon you can only use what they sell, or approved and compatible BYOD.

EDIT:

What about Verizon Ellipsis devices, do they have phone functionality or are they data only?

Ohh. CDMA bites again. You can probably use some of the Samsung Asian version tablets on TMobile (AFAIK they're GSM). But other than that....

Get a tablet with data and use Google voice + Google hangouts dialer. I used that for a long time works pretty well.
