Credit Card Storage?

RobinDean

Lurker
Saw an iPhone add last night that, of course, pissed me off LOL.

It shows some bimbo using her phone to buy her groceries.

I'd like to be able to store all of my credit cards in my phone and do the same.

Is there an Android app that does this?

Why would you want to store your CC info on your phone?! Aren't you afraid of losing your phone and having someone with your CC info?!

How would that work? CC's store your information on a magnetic strip. How would you add a magnetic strip to your phone?

New iPhone Is suppose to be able to scan as a quick pay card or something like that. But its not our yet. Only rumors of it

the new iphone is rumored to have "near field communication".
You pretty much wave your phone across a sensor at checkout instead of swiping a card.
So your phone is also your wallet.

The Nexus S has the hardware to do this but it has not been activated yet. In some countries phones have have the capability for years. The technology is called Near Field Communication or NFC.

Here is an article about 2 test markets in the US regarding this Google to Test NFC Mobile Payments from Android Smartphones - Mobile and Wireless - News & Reviews - eWeek.com . The OS version must be gingerbread and your phone would need to support NFC, the nexus S is the only phone that I know of with such support that is currently out, but the API is available to manufacturers so likely it will be showing up more and more over the course of the year.

@tone: Golly G. Willikers! It sure is "super" of you to respond to a question with another question! Obviously, you know me very well so you know that, of course, I don't have any active security on my phone whatsoever! Someday, I'm going to go to NEW YORK CITY to be a big STAR! When I get there, I'll give all of those honest homeless people I hear about some change because I know they'd never use it for alcohol. We don't have things like that here at the south POLE!

Now, for the rest of you ... interesting responses. I've read a few articles here and there about how some providers are attempting to develop the same graphics that allow use to barcode scan our browser and have it lead directly to the android market. I'm not sure how far it's come thus far but, that's the kind of thing I'm on the hunt for.

If the clerk can either scan it or type it in manually, I'm good with that. Have any of you tried any of the apps out there that aim to do this?
