CS918s Android TV Box - "No Signal or Out of Range"

Lurker
I really hope I can get some help. Just bought a CS918s Android TV Box and connected it to my Samsung HDTV 1080i(DVI) using a DVI/HDMI adapter. But once I powered up the TV Box my TV displayed, "No Signal or Out of Range". I took it to work just to check the newer HDTV there and it worked fine. So, I chalked it up to having an older HDTV. I then connected the A/V cable to my TV. It did work, but the picture was really distorted (no color, snow-like) and rolling like something was wrong with the vertical hold. I could understand why it may not display on an older HDTV using HDMI, but I don't understand why the A/V connection didn't work properly. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Evidently the sync rate of the box and the sync rate of your TV aren't compatible. With HDMI, either you get the picture as it's supposed to be or you don't get anything. (The edge case, where you just about fet the signal, but not quite, is called sparklies - you get white dots, more or less severe, depending on how bad the signal is, in some places on the picture. But the picture you do get is exactly the picture you're supposed to get. [The sparklies are areas where the decoder can't figure out what the signal is.]) With AV, which is analog, you get anything you throw at it, which is why you're seeing something - but it's a picture that, at least, has a vertical refresh rate that your TV can't handle, which is why it appears to be a "vertical hold" problem (which doesn't happen with digital TV). The TV will lock to any refresh rte it's capable of - yours isn't capable of what the box is putting out. ("Out of range" is referring to the range of vertical frequencies the set can run at.)

First of all, thanks for such a quick response. Is there any way to lower either the sync rate or the refresh rate of the Box, so that it could interact properly with my TV? A couple of years ago, I bought an NBox Media Player which works fine with my TV (@720P) even now. Someone mentioned to me that since my TV is older, it is probably NTSC format only and the CS918s is set at PAL. At work we connected RCA cables to the newer HDTV that it worked on, to change the CS918S from PAL to NTSC, but it didn't change. The Box would go blue and when we would go back into settings it would still indicate PAL. What do you think? And once again thanks.
