Currently on unlimited data using Galaxy SIII

Hello forum members.

I'm currently under a family plan with 5 people. 4 of them are smartphones, including my galaxy SIII. When I bought the galaxy SIII, I was luckily able to keep my unlimited data as I preordered it. So now the Note II is out, I really want to get one. So here is my question : My dad does not have a smartphone right now but would like to have one. So my plan is order a Note II using his contract, get it in mail, activate it on his line first, and then switch sim cards between mine and his. Will doing this able to keep my unlimited 4G data?

Also my sister has an iphone 4, which was bought more than two years ago. She also wants a new phone but holding off on it because she doesn't want to lose the unlimited data. But since her phone is a 3G phone, will she able to keep it if she uses someone else's contract? If so, how will she get a sim card if she, let's say, gets a Note II?

Thanks in advance guys!!

Rich

Yes, you can use Dad's upgrade to get the phone then switch it to your line and keep your unlimited data.

Whoever's line Sis uses to upgrade will lose unlimited data if they do, in fact, have it. If anyone else uses her line ever, then she as well will lose it.

Have you checked everyone's usage though to see if this even an issue for you? My family mostly uses wifi at home (I'm the only one that can use it at work too), I've got five phones and two tablets on a Share Everything plan. We usually are below 6 GB/mo, and some months are close to 4GB for all of us.

Assuming your dad is part of the family plan you talk about, as soon as you order (upgrade) a phone for him that would cause the whole plan to go over to a Share Everything plan I believe, at least if you get the phone at the upgrade subsidized price. The only way to get a new phone for anyone without going to the new plan to to pay full price.

I'm assuming you 'pre-ordered' your phone before the turnover date back in the summer. So even though your dad has an upgrade coming (even from long ago) you would not be able to keep the unlimited. At least that is how I understand it.
