Root custom rom on 850Mhz version

I'm getting the 850Mhz version of the nexus one (I live in Australia and use the Telstra nextG network).

Is the rooting process the same as 'standard' version, and are custom roms compatible with this or are there custom variants?
I'm thinking about the famous cyroganic rom but I"m worried that it will brick and being in Oz, warranty will be a nightmare....

Anybody with an 850 Nexus that has rooted w/ custom ROM? Esp in Australia?

Thanks in advance

I would have thought that the rooting process is exactly the same.

In terms of the ROM, this should be exactly the same (? though) but, I would be wary of flashing over the stock radio.

To be sure, you could always post a question on Cyanogen or XDA forum....

thanks, I don't think its worth it given that I have to ship it back to US for warranty should something go wrong.... I can live without wireless tethering ;).

yeah I know but like I said if I stuff it up I have to send it back to the US. Don't want to risk it.
Trust me I'm into tinkering with linux and my natural inclination is to root, if only for the sake of it ;)

im pretty sure the only real difference would be the radio

if you can find a copy of the 850Mhz stock radio, any problems you run into, you can just flash the stock radio back on and away you go

or even better ... screw telstra and go optus, i did and never looked back
