Root Custom ROM that Works or OP error

markbyrn

Lurker
I attempted to use the ROM Manager app to flash either euroskank cm10 kangs and nemith. In both cases, the result was a looping splash screen showing the Cyanogenmod 9 logo and after waiting about 20 minutes, I used the Toolkit to flash the factory 4.1.1 image.

Perhaps it's an operator error but since I used the ROM Manager app to easily flash a custom ROM for my Galaxy Nexus, and used the same process for my N7, I'm scratching my head to figure out why the negative result here.

Can anybody advise or provide a link to a step by step process to successfully flash a custom ROM to the N7?

Are you checking "wipe data" when flashing from Rom Manager?

You have to do that when changing roms.

Hi, thanks for the quick response. No, I didn't; the selected default pre-installation option is to Wipe Dalvik Cache. So should I should select both options - Wipe Data and Cache plus Wipe Dalvik Cache or just select Wipe Data and Cache?

If flashing a different rom, check all of them, so you'll have a backup but you'll have to reinstall your apps.

If flashing a newer version of the same rom, check all except for wipe data, since reinstalling everything isn't usually necessary for an upgrade (unless specified by the rom dev).

If you can get into recovery now (I don't recall what combination of buttons at power-up does this) and do a factory reset, you should be able to resume where you left off, but would need to reinstall your gApps (which probably are sitting in your sdcard in the clockworkmod\downloads folder).

That did the trick - thanks so much.

the gApps are not in that folder. Should I download them cyanogenmod.com and select the CyanogenMod 9 version?

You can DL the latest gApps from Goo Manager, if you have that installed, o/w your idea should work too. If you flash from Goo, it'll want to install a different recovery, TWRP, which I use and like. It's touch based, but it'll break use of Rom Manager to install roms. If you DL from goo, your gApps will be in goomanager folder on your sdcard.

Did RM offer to install gApps? (It used to.) O/W you should be able to find it in RM in Download Rom and flash it from there. If it didn't offer, then no, it wouldn't be in that folder.

Didn't offer to install but I did find it in the download ROM section. Thanks for all the help. :)
