Customizing SMS notifications

What would be the easiest way to turn off SMS notifications for all messages from non-contacts only (besides going through and individually setting each one)? Is this possible to do for calls, too? Currently I use YouMail which lets me <i>block</i> calls from non-contacts but I don't really want to block them-- just get them off of my notifications list.

Any messaging or other calling app in particular that anyone recommends that would most easily facilitate this? Thanks for the help!

Google Messages allows you to set the default notification to silent (appear only in pull down) - or off completely and then add contacts one by one who you wish to receive notifications for.
