Root CyanogenMod 7 (Gingerbread) now a Release Candidate

CyanogenMod's Nightly's 7 has now launched a Release Candidate for Gingerbread 2.3.2

Very smooth. No hiccups for me. Rotary lock screen and a few other goodies.

The only thing I would recommend to anyone new switching to CM7 or, indeed, from 6.1 to CM7, is that a full wipe of both phone and SD card is needed and to reinstall (not restore) everything afresh from the ground up, as if it were a new phone. This only needs to be done once to avoid any conflicts and is well worth the trouble initially.

I would like to add my thanks to Cyanogen for all the hard work that has been put into CM7 2.3.

Have installed their CM7 nightly's since build #10 without any problems and have used it on a day-to-day basis.

Since #10 they have released updates daily (sometimes twice a day), constantly striving to improve CM7 for the Nexus One and this release candidate is build #45. So you can see that a lot of work has gone into this.

Once again, thank you you very much Cyanogen.

(I do like the "old TV screen" style of fading in and out when the screen operates on/off)

Well, I finally took the plunge with RC 2. Wow, that was easy. I know, what took me so long? I'm asking the same question.

I tell you after rooting, unlocking and custom recoveries, ROM flashing is nothing.

I don't suppose that the FACTORY RESET under settings/privacy accomplishes the same thing as this wipe???

Er.. no!

I format the SD card and use ClockworkMod to partition it.

As for the phone, I use a "nuclear" wipe app from "temasek" on xda:-

Format-signed.zip

Then load your ROM on the virgin handset before replacing everything piecemeal (not from a back-up).

This only needs doing, IMHO, when flashing CM7 for the first time, or going from CM6 to CM7.

In my experience, some people get away without wiping. Some get away with it for awhile before finding problems.

Either way, I prefer to advise people to err on the side of caution. At least that way if something does go wrong they can eliminate using an incompatible back-up and restore.

i did not wipe my sd card ,just deleted the secure data and other crap from the prev. version of Android ,and had no problems ...did the same thing with 2 other phones and no problems ...must of been some glitch from the firstly versions or smthn

Now up to CM7 RC2/NB26. Just a Nandroid backup and then flash right over any CM7 build and there you go!

Very nice so far, no hiccups here... everything including WiFi, GPS, phone calls (remember those ) working perfectly.

I hope they iron out all the bugs soon. As a CM 6.1 user I'm anxious to upgrade and take advantage of Gingerbread, but I don't want to download the stock OS and lose my root. Given I need to wipe and stuff I'd rather wait for a final release as opposed to constantly updating via RCs.

or you could get the latest nighly [it's more stable than the latest RC you know..] and use it at it's full potential ...well at least 98%
