Is data transfer between android phone possible? Lets say I get a cliq and add in contacts and calendar appointments. If I later switch providers and/or phones (for example droid) will my contact and calendar data get to my new phone? I am not familiar with the android apps to know if the data is stored locally or on some google server.

Yes. As long as you have sync enabled, your contacts and calendar will be sync'd with Google's server.
