Data vs. Text

Hello again-

I will be traveling to Cabo San Lucas in January. I am aware of the international Verizon roaming charges associated with voice and text. My question is this: Are notifications (i.e. a facebook notification, WordFued, etc) considered a text, or part of data? I don;t mean when you sign up and Twitter sends you a text. I understand that is a text. :) But the notification bar up top of the Droid 2. Do those pull from your data?

Reason I ask is I don't want to get hit with a big phone bill from International Data Charges when I get back. My plan is to enable Wi-Fi to use at the hotel, and disable all notifications.

But in case I did not do that.... Would I be getting hit for the .05 every time a notification comes up? Or would it be considered data?

Thanks!

It is data. Do your self a huge favor and turn off your phone before you leave the service area. There is a lot of settings you can not control which could us 3g. I have seen this first hand.

Also for people who are rooted, they can try droidwall to block all data communications as well.

-useful for those on limited data plans :-)

I've tested droidwall and on full lockdown(so to speak) I haven't seen any packets send/receive through ddms.

Keep in mind, though, that WiFi use doesn't count against your data usage, so you can do anything you want while connected to WiFi and not hit any trouble :)
