daughter spilled water on my laptop.....

...about half a cup. Couldn't catch it in time to remove the power source or the battery. It happen about a month ago so everything is dry but still wont turn on. I'm I screwed?

quite possibly. There is a small chance that things may not be screwed, that the power supply is simply sensing a short and thus not allowing it to turn on.

I'd take it to a repair facility and see if they can clean it up and get it working again. Yeah, it'll cost money - but depending upon how valuable the data on it is it might be worth it.

If you're computer savvy at all, you can attempt to take it apart yourself and see if you can blow compressed air into nooks and crannies removing any latent moisture - I take them apart all the time, but I'm a computer repair specialist, so....

And not to pour salt on the wound, but mebbe now you'll make sure the drinks and food stay away from the computers, eh?

That is true. If you didn't live on the west Coast I'd charge a lot les tha nthat to take it apart, clean it up, and give it a shot.

Yeah, 99% of the stuff I know about computers is b/c I broke something and had to fix it - or figure out that it was not fixable....

as a last resort you could try to take out the screws on the under side ..maybe marked with a K wich will allow the keyboard to disconnect.

then try to get a closed mesh bag of rice, and lay it on the exposed parts, to absorb some moisture.

maybe turn it upsidedown on the bag of rice... give a few

if nothing else u should at least be able to salvage the hard drive and ram.

You can buy one of those business type of laptop like Thinkpad where it has water drain in the bottom so the water just flow out

One thing I would try is to pull the RAM, HDD, and battery and then hold down the power button for about 10-15 seconds.

Then plug it all back in and see what happens...

It has done some miracle fixes for me in the past.

Heh, taking it apart completely will help, if not, may fix the little problem.

Brother spilled Gatorade on a laptop. Brother is no longer allowed to touch any equipment with my name on it.

I made that decision before any such disaster ever occurred any place I have lived. "My stuff ==> Hands off" is the golden rule for living with me. :D

Me too!! And if you MUST, for some reason, use it please stand in the middle of the room, away from any drinks/food/cleaning products/animals.

And don't come to me after you've spilled something on your own and say 'oops, now what?' - My response is "Don't know, told ya not to have that by it"

Arrgh - animals is another sore point with me....

Simple cleaning of products makes me a lot of money, b/c most people don't know that it's relatively easy to clean, and the best part is that even when they learn how easy it is they're still scared that they'll break something and still bring it to me....

When I have a problem that I have tried to fix (which I do use google and other resources a lot before giving in) and just can't I carry my laptop out on a board to my dad (he's an IT guy, not fix-it but is handy nonetheless) and tell him the stretcher was pulled out for the boo boo to be fixed. He gets more nervous when I do this because it means it probably is something really wrong.

I'm my family's version of your Dad lol - Worked steady and hardcore in IT for 14+ years....

Everyone comes to me - they don't quite say it like you do, but still lol....

I have gotten paranoid at this stage with very, very important/expensive things. If you're going to have it here, stand in a suspended stage if possible. Otherwise prepare for a Fillet-o-Fist with your stupid Pop and Chips...

Haha...I have that too, when people found out I can help their Android issues, I'm all of a sudden the 'guy to go to'. Come on, are people that lazy to use the freaking Google? *Or join this site, already got one guy going...xD*

But even before that, IT and Computers...hell. Good 8 years I think it is now...

I would really prefer a bubble for them to stand in. Would give me serious piece of mind if they must use my toys.

Oh me too on the phones - EVERYONE in the family comes to me. It's kinda fun until they bring me something and say 'I tried to fix it and can't make this screen go away'.
I am so very excited though - my mom just text me and finally finally said she is ready to get rid of POSie (short for Piece of S**tie), also known as her Motorola Droid 2. Hated it from the start. Lol.

I love how people sometimes try to do things on their own, and end up getting a Boot Beer to the face.

Even more when you recommend something, then they go with something else completely that you absolutely LOATHE and then they end up paying for it cause it turns out to be a pile o crap of hardware!

A Bubble? I think more like a miniature cell. Or something that makes gravity not exist.

I'll be so happy when the day comes that I can (afford to) install a DT in a guest room for all guests to 'play' on that they really cannot mess up lol....

Hopefully by that time they create those "Francis" Desktops. *L4D ref*

"Good thing I'm indestructible". I can imagine an Android saying that.
