Help Dazed and Confused CSC codes and my S4 GT-i9505

Hello, I know enough to be dangerous and barely a lick more.

I'm running version 4.4.2 on my phone. I've rooted the phone. I've also tripped the knox flag (don't care....I think) I bought the phone in the Balkans. the sales code is XEH, Hungry I believe.

I've installed Phone INFO. I'm able to see all sorts of information. I want to change the CSC code to one for the USA. I find there are four possibilities AWS, DOB, TMB and CLW. I'm not clear on how to know which to use.

Using Phone INFO I can run a Csc Verifier app and it gives me a log.

I want to change my CSC to identify my phone as being in the U.S.A. If anyone can sort me out I'd appreciate it.

That's a good beginning! Better than the, "Flash Happy", numpties that are a danger to themselves and their phones.

I'm running version 4.4.2 on my phone. I've rooted the phone. I've also tripped the knox flag (don't care....I think) I bought the phone in the Balkans. the sales code is XEH, Hungry I believe.

You have the international model of the Samsung Galaxy S4, GT-i9505. This model number is important. As for tripping the Knox flag, depending on how you rooted, this will have been tripped with the installation of a custom recovery as per #1.0 of
[International] Rooting Galaxy S4 - Dummies Guide and is irreversible.

I've installed Phone INFO. I'm able to see all sorts of information. I want to change the CSC code to one for the USA. I find there are four possibilities AWS, DOB, TMB and CLW. I'm not clear on how to know which to use.

Using Phone INFO I can run a Csc Verifier app and it gives me a log.

I want to change my CSC to identify my phone as being in the U.S.A. If anyone can sort me out I'd appreciate it.

The problem you have is that none of the USA CSC codes are for the GT-i9505 model and therefore will not be recognised. See #1.2 of 29 Galaxy S4 models - know yours?

It looks as though an attempt may have been made to alter the CSC code as the one shown above does not appear to be correct for the GT-i9505 model for Hungary. You can check this as per #1.3 of the previous link.

In short, changing the CSC code will not change the model of phone or the hardware to one of the U.S. models shown in the table of #1.2 of 29 Galaxy S4 models - know yours?

Since you are on the old 4.4.2 firmware for Hungary, you could update to the latest Hungarian, (XEH), 5.0.1 firmware...

Personally, I would flash the latest, highest changelist #, firmware for an unbranded European model with an English language pack. Such as...

Note: both of these stock Samsung firmwares will unroot you. Because U.S. 4G/LTE networks differ from the international ones, you may not be able to use it on most U.S. carrier networks for 4G/LTE. You could try T-Mobile USA as they are close.

Thanks for taking the time to explain things. Im currently using Straight-Talk in the US and that works, but I get no 4G or 3G for that matter. I thought I was being clever buying an international model. Seriously who would think the word international actually means otherwise? I shall try your suggestions. I may just have to breakdown and purchase a U.S. phone. Thank you again

Unlike, say, Europe and most of the world where there is a standardised GSM/4G/LTE network, the U.S.A. has different network settings for each carrier and as well as GSM, also has CDMA networks as well. Hence the different U.S. models of phone for each U.S. carrier.

eeek is right! Well, thanks, for that. That site is handy and I am bookmarking it. Since the start of this thread I've replaced my international model with a USA model (sgh-i337) It has simplified things certainly.
