Dead/Stuck pixel

While this is a great phone, I've got this from the beginning:

And Oneplus support says this:

This guy also has the exact same issue:

Is there anyone else ?

I didn't want to return my phone as it is great, and I thought support can fix thix, or they will replace it if they don't, and now I have a great phone with an annoying pixel that Oneplus doesn't want to replace or return my money. That's not the best experience.

Any ideas how can I solve this ?

Yep, pretty much SOL on that one. All manufacturers have a certain "limit" so to speak about what they accept. There are very few who guarantee no dead pixels. Most companies (depending on pixel count) leave the benchmark around 5 dead pixels in total or multiple, adjacent dead pixels. I have not tried to use it but there is an app on the Play Store that will try to fix it. Give it a go and report back if possible.

I am working with Oneplus team for at least 2 weeks on the issue, tried various youtube videos, apps running for 6/11 hours, they even provided a custom firmware to fix this, but nothing helped. So I guess they ran out of ideas and decided to try to "ignore" the issue, and send me to wikipedia where it says that "bad things happen with screens".

I didn't take that, and after my next commend where I was asking for a replacement/refund, they agreed to replace my phone.

I will keep this thread updated with news.

Glad you were able to hammer them to the point they are giving you a new phone. I have a stuck pixel on my TV that I am just living with because I dont feel like bringing the TV back. Now if that pixel was on my monitor or phone, I'd do the same as you. Good luck!

I've had my OnePlus One for a couple weeks now, and a few days ago I noticed a stuck pixel. I honestly have no idea if it was there from the start, or it recently showed up. My wallpaper is a nebula, so I never would have noticed it amongst the stars. I didn't notice it until I loaded up an eBook, where I use white font on a black background. The pixel was blue, and it would only show up on a dark/black background. Honestly, it wasn't that noticeable (we're talking a single pixel - a subpixel at that - amongst over 2 million), but it still bugged me. Actually, it angered me into a loud and vulgar alcohol fueled rage.

Anyway, reboot didn't fix, thwacking it with my finger didn't fix it (this worked on my monitor once), and the "Dead Pixel Policy" on OnePlus' website is a 404. Anyway, in searching for a fix or warranty info, I came across a number of apps that supposedly can fix dead/stuck pixels. The one I tried was this one:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.htc.chris.blackspotdetect

Ran it for a few minutes, no luck. Ran it for 15 minutes, no luck. Ran it for the full half hour it's set for, no luck. Ran it for several hours, and lo and behold, the pixel was unstuck!

I guess this isn't a solution for every phone, but I'm happy to report that in my case it did work (to my surprise and immeasurable relief), and might work for others. At the very least, new owners should inspect for dead/stuck pixels. Remember that you have 30 days to return it regardless if there's something wrong with it or you decide you don't like it.

I'm loving this phone too. Running LiquidSmooth 3.2 (4.4.4) and couldn't be happier with it.

Congrats ! I tried some of those apps, ran a few for 6 and 11 hours with no luck :( So mine is soon heading back to OnePlus for replacement.

I will. They accepted to replace the phone after the issue was "escalated"

It'd be nice if OnePlus would partner up w/at least one carrier or retailer,to possibly facilitate a better customer service experience, should the occasion arise.
This phone is a great all-around bargain, but,I do not recommend it to anyone who's not willing to take the chance on dealing w/a prolonged service/RMA case.(Experienced it 1st hand,a great deal of patience is called for,or,you're in for a long trip).
This would be a great opportunity for both OnePlus & perhaps T-Mobile's next Uncarrier move.
Besides,T-Mo needs something to fill the void left by the removal of the SONY XPERIA Z3.

Man, that would be great. I know OP will not sell their company but if they were to partner with T-Mobile to sell more devices in the US in return for capital that they could spend on manufacturing, it could be a big hit. Obviously T-Mobile has the logistics down so that would be an added benefit. Maybe T-Mobile gets 10% of all phones sold in their stores and we see a small markup in these phones. This would allow OP to get more market penetration in the US and drastically improve their customer service. A move like this could be huge for both companies but unfortunately, it wont happen. I agree 100% with you about recommending this phone. The disclaimer I give to people always turns them away and I cannot back them service-wise because of their issues.

I've got a new phone!
Looks ok so far, no dead pixels...

It took about 3 months to convince them the device is broken and arrange the return (partially because I am outside of US right now), but OnePlus did a great job and patiently guided me through all the process.

Of course 3 months is a lot, well - let's say 2 months, that's how long it took to run all the tests, fixes, and stuff like that, then I got a response posted in the first post - stating this is what happens with many screens, so I had to push on them to get the replacement.

This is not the best experience I ever had trying to fix a new device, but still - it's fixed, so I am somewhat satisfied.
