Decent Verizon Phones?

best cheap (< $100) android on verizon? girlfriend needs to upgrade her shit droid 2. i suggested htc, but appearently verizon doesnt carry any of the nice ones.

any experience with the bionic, incredible 2, or even the thunderbolt? she just needs software that's not buggy, decent battery, and solid build since she can be a bit clumsy. i think she also prefers medium sized phones that would fit in her pockets easier. thanks.

Welcome to Android Forums!:)
I am moving this thread into the Verizon Forum so that more people who are familiar with the Verizon phones will see this, and answer it.

Bionic is a great 4G phone. It's on its way out for VZW, but I honestly think it would've had a much better run if the RAZR hadn't come to replace it so soon. It's a solid phone, and it it pretty well supported.

The Inc 2 is great if you want just a 3G phone. It's the most stable phone I've ever owned. I'm not 100% sure it will receive ICS, and the root community for it is pretty small, but practically speaking, its great.

Thunderbolt I don't know much about, sorry.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! Helps a lot.

I was actually telling her to get the Bionic, but because of her horrible experience with the droid, we were worried that the software might be just as buggy. I checked some user reviews, and people were saying there were a few bugs which I hope have been fixed by now.

I agree that the Bionic is a really nice phone.
Mine never gave me any problem.

Love my bionic. Imo the bugs are fixed.

The rezound is a good choice since it has Android 4.0, but it doesnt fit the <$100 bill. Depends on how much you want to spend. But if you like the rezound, i would wait for the incredible 4G. Its basically a cross between HTCs One series (VZW's closest thing to a ONE phone) and the rezound.

If you don't need 4g, the Incredible 2 can't be beat. It's the least buggy Android phone I've owned, and I've had most of them. The camera is nice, and it's not huge. Battery life is reasonable too.

I agree with the others. The Inc2 is a great phone and is super stable and smooth. My wife has the Inc2 and I have the X. The screens are no comparison. Even though the X is bigger by .3", the colors are much better on the Inc2 and the battery life is very good for an Android phone.

Now that I think about it, I wonder why the Inc2 doesn't get recommended all that often as good as it is.

I also have the Inc2. It's a great phone. As for not being recommended more often, I'd guess it's because of the lack of 4G.

Thanks again. We went to the Verizon store yesterday, and she took a liking to the RAZR. I'm telling her to wait for a price drop though, since the Bionic just became free, and I believe the RAZR was released a few months after it.

And we'll definitely look into the Incredible 2, or wait for the 4G version. I personally have a MyTouch 4G and could not be anymore impressed with HTC. My phone has dropped down flights of cement stairs with only a few scratches. And the software has been stable throughout. Her Droid on the other hand, has been a problem since the first month.

The Razr's an excellent phone. I have one. I'm not sure how much it is in the store, but Verizon's website has it listed for $99. I believe it just recently went down from $200, so I'm not sure if they'll be another price drop in the near future. $99 is a steal though. I'm sure you could probably find it cheaper on Amazon or something similar.

You're definitely going to want to think about upgrading to 4G phones since really... that's the future. Upgrade now, keep your unlimited data. Stick it to Verizon and laugh.

+1 on that. Over the next two year of you contract, the support for 3G is going to drop like a brick

I agree with your suggestion, that 4G is the future and it's in your best interests to upgrade to 4G now.

However I fail to see how taking Verizon up on a plan they are voluntarily offering constitutes "sticking it to them". If it wasn't in thier best interests to have you take advantage of the offer, they would very simply not offer it.

Remember, doing business with a company is not a competition. Simply pick a company and plan that works best for you. Verizon gains/keeps a customer, and you get a plan that suits your needs and that you're happy with. This is a win/win situation. If it was a competition, that implies a winner and a looser.

Best of luck to all of us, :)

I love my HTC (Dinc) and was looking forward to the One X, though VZW won't carry it... idiots. Anyway, loking at VZW's website, I would think the RAZR for $99 would be my choice with your limitations. However, like others said, u may find a better (newer?) phone for cheap on amazon or wirefly. Also, I've never had the Thunderbolt, but I've heard it has poor battery life, mostly due to it being one of the first 4G phones.

What is important to your girlfriend? How does she use her phone? What about the software don't you like?

A physical keyboard is the one requirement for my wife, who also currently has a Droid 2, if that is important to your girlfriend then the Droid 4 and Stratosphere are both currently right at $100, both are 4G LTE and the Droid 4 is scheduled for an ICS update Q3 of this year.

Between the Stratosphere and Droid 4 I would go Droid 4, because it seems to get better reviews, and as a "Droid", possibly more support.

She's not really a heavy user, but she constantly complains about her maps and pandora not loading as fast as my phone. So she wants 4g. And there has been numerous bugs with her droid. FCs, backlight left on, freezes, her screen starts *****ing, random battery drain, touch screen problems, etc. Non-stop problems. And this is her 2nd or 3rd replacement.

She actually got the droid for the keyboar, but ended up never using it.

I think we'll wait for the Inc 4g, and if she likes it, I'll buy it for her. If not, the prices for the other phones are bound to drop anyways.
