default apps issue

I am having an issue with the default app choice. For some odd reason I am getting a response from a certain individual on the phones default app messaging. I do not like messaging so I set Google messenger as the new default app. All other text are working correctly through messenger except the single person. Any suggestions?

solved. found out old app still had permissions set.
