Default reading/writing storage...sd, internal flash, or usb?

Just got a craig clp281x netbook (it's basically an android tablet with a keyboard instead of a touchscreen) and was looking through the settings and it asks if i want to make the default storage the internal flash (ROM) or the SD card. I'd rather not use the internal ROM as I think it would make my netbook last longer, but I also heard that an SD card can become corrupted if written to and deleted from too often. Is this true? Can I skip all this and just use a USB card as my default?

Where things write to by default is app dependent.

You may be able to make things like the camera have a setting to use the SD card by default, though there is a performance penalty as SD cards are slower than internal storage.

Re SD card reliability: in theory, they're pretty good, in fact, I've had lots of of issues. I'd keep a backup if you have important stuff on there.

It is also true that SD only allows a limited number of writes to particular locations, however it's a reasonably high number of times so it's not likely to be a huge problem if you're changing files every week or even daily. It could be an issue if it was used for something like paging where files could be written many times a second.
