Define android

Hi. I am kinda confused as to what an Android is. Is it a particular phone? Or is it a phone OS that runs on different phones? I've heard many people say "i've got an android" so that's why I don't know.

My other question is.. I am ready for a new phone and i'm used to a windows mobile phone. A few people have told me I should get a blackberry or an android. So I have been looking into it a little. I have AT&T and I looked at their site and under Android they only have one phone listed.

Android is the operating system. ATT sucks so far in the android offerings.

Buy an unlocked Nexus One. One of the two versions is compatible with ATT frequency.

Android is a Linux variant, and yes, an OS.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Many are telling me I should go with an android, and that since ATT only offers the backflip I don't really have a choice. Is this a good phone? Will I be able to do the tethering for free? Or will I have to pay extra monthly fee

You might want to look in the Backflip forum for specific info on that phone.

Only thing I can suggest is to let your AT&T contract run out and get away from that awful company. But I'm biased that way.

An Android phone is just describing the OS on the phone. There are many phones that hold Android software on various networks. Verizon has a few new ones, the Motorola Droid being the first Android device on their network, its working great for them. T-mobile and Sprint are also SELLING OUT all of their Android phones, its amazing.

On AT&T you won't have much choice, other than the backflip and a few other phones that are bound to come out. I've heard BAD reviews on the backflip, and its not something I would use personally. I do reccomend you do get an Android phone though .

If your contract with AT&T expired, switch to Verizon, get a wider selection.

It's an OS. Don't forget about Google. It's handy for answering questions.

From the context above, you can tell that they mean "I've got an Android [device]".

Uh ok. What's the question? It's definitely a given that at&t's current Android lineup is pitiful.

Have the people that told you to look into BB or Android told you why or did they just blindly recommend them to you? You need to find what suits you best.
